He pressed the doorbell a couple of times, but no one opened the door. Just as he was about to leave, the door opened slowly with a ‘creak’.

Qin Chu then saw Song Yishi, who was wearing a navy blue night-robe and wearing delicate makeup on her face.

“Come in…” Song Yishi’s expression was lifeless, and Qin Chu followed her in after a moment’s hesitation.

The lights in the living room were dimly lit, and a decanter-full of Lafite sat on the coffee table. There were two glasses, one with wine and one without. After sitting down, Song Yishi poured Qin Chu a glass.

“I’m not here to drink.” Qin Chu’s voice was icy.

“I know.”

“Just say what you want to say.”

“Haha… what’s the hurry?” Song Yishi smiled bitterly.

“The photo you sent me…”

“Ha, scary, right?”

“Huo Siqian did it to you?” Qin Chu frowned; he hated men who hit women, it was a sign of incompetence and worthlessness.

If Huo Siqian was really the one who cut Song Yishi’s back in such a heartless manner, he wasn’t fit to be called a man.

Song Yishi bit on her lips and didn’t say anything. Rather, she picked up her wineglass and drank everything in it.

“Qin Chu… I miss being a child. Back then, although my parents weren’t with me, I didn’t have much to worry about… The more a person grows up, the more they lose, and the unhappier they become. Humans are so greedy, yearning for things that they can’t have and going over the top to obtain them.”

“Mhm.” Qin Chu nodded, not disagreeing with what Song Yishi said.

She then poured herself another glass of wine. After taking a sip, she continued, “Back then, my life in Italy was good… I thought I would live there for the rest of my life, and ask my parents to move to Italy with me after they retire in five years. I went to the States a couple of times and watched you from far away… I often wonder if I was brave enough to go up to you and tell you how I feel about you…”

“Even so, I wouldn’t accept you. Huo Mian is the only woman I’ll ever love,” Qin Chu interrupted her; indeed, back then the only woman on his mind was Huo Mian. All he wanted was to win his seven-year-deal with his father, go back to China, and marry her.

Therefore, even if Song Yishi chased fervently after him back then, he still wouldn’t have agreed to date her.

“I know… but at least I won’t have any regrets. Once you do something, you won’t have any regrets, even if you fail.”

Then, Song Yishi picked up her wineglass again; Qin Chu, on the other hand, was losing his patience.

“If you don’t like your life right now, just get divorced and leave him.”

“Leave him? Haha, I wish it were that simple.” Song Yishi smiled bitterly.

“He threatened you?” Qin Chu guessed, and Song Yishi quickly changed his subject, “How is Mr. Qin doing?”

“Not well.”

“I heard he has a brain tumor.”

“Mhm.”

“Are the chances of surviving surgery high?”

“No…” Qin Chu said truthfully.

“I hope Mr. Qin can survive this, he’s such a great person…” Song Yishi looked down.

Qin Chu noticed that her eyes drifted around… and her words seemed somewhat incoherent.

“What did you want to say to me?” Qin Chu asked icily; he didn’t want to waste any more time with her anymore. If she didn’t send him that gross photo and if it weren’t for Mayor Song, he wouldn’t have even come.

He never cared about whether Song Yishi was doing well, and whether she was alive or dead.

After some silence, Song Yishi said, “Qin Chu, stop fighting Huo Siqian, you can’t win.”
