Chapter 1320: Chapter 1317: The Letter
Ye Muyu listened until she felt drowsy and, being someone who was prone to sleepiness, she eventually drifted off in that comfortable position without realizing it. It was not until she heard the even breathing that Chu Heng looked down, saw her serene little face, smiled helplessly, and got up from the soft couch.
The letter from the Ye family arrived three days later.
Ye Muyu had been waiting eagerly and opened it as soon as it arrived.
The letter was thick, a full five pages, written as if from the mouth of Old Woman Ye.
It mentioned the arrangements made by Ye Hao for them, as he had opened a shop at Luoping Pass and closing the family’s business had left them without income. Old Woman Ye, reluctant to let go, had discussed with Ye Hao the idea of them staying at Luoping Pass for now. With General Shen there, they were not worried about being bullied.
Beyond that, there was something amusing, Madam Su was pregnant again, only three months along. Since they hadn’t realized it before, she fell by the well while washing clothes, nearly miscarried, and only then discovered she was pregnant.
Old Woman Ye was taking care of Madam Su every day now, as she needed to focus on her health for fear of losing the child.
With that, a long journey was even more out of the question.
Ye Muyu was somewhat surprised but thought of her second brother Ye Zhao, who had only one child. To the elderly, that would seem like too few descendants, not to mention that a miscarriage would also be harmful to a woman’s health.
After giving it some thought, she called Su Mei in, “I remember we have plenty of medicinal herbs in the storeroom that are beneficial to pregnant women. Go pick some out.”
“Yes, my lady,” Su Mei replied, not asking further questions, but dutifully set about her task.
The rest of the letter consisted of concerns about her, asking about her due date, as well as her health.
It also informed her that Ye Hao had already set out.
When Chu Heng returned, during dinner, she related all of this to everyone.
Upon hearing about the fall, Madam Liu was terribly frightened, “Ah Heng, Ah Yu is also about to give birth. I’ll move into your courtyard and stay there; I remember there’s a spare room. I’ll move back after the birth.”
“You’re busy during the day and don’t have time to take care of both mother and child. I’d be worried.”
Chu Zhiwen also nodded, “Even though we have servants to take care of her, they definitely won’t be as attentive as us elders.”
Ye Muyu felt it would be too much of a hassle for the elders, “Mother, that spare room is very small, it would be uncomfortable for you. I’ll be fine, there are several maidservants in the courtyard, and I’ll be careful.”
As she spoke, she twisted Chu Heng’s waist with her hand, hinting at her own preference.
Unexpectedly, Chu Heng pondered for a moment and then said, “Mother is right, these are the last few days, and we don’t know when labor will start. The maidservants in your courtyard are all young and can’t manage much. I would only feel at ease if mother were there.”
Ye Muyu glared at him, and Chu Heng pinched her hand to soothe her, then turned to Madam Liu, “Mother, you’ll be put to labor because of this, but you won’t have to worry about other affairs in the courtyard. Just keep Ah Yu company and make sure she doesn’t act rashly.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t busy myself with everything,” Madam Liu waved her hand, taking his instructions to heart.
That night, Ye Muyu replied to the letter from the Ye family, her response filled with everyday niceties, and she did not mention the idea of the elders moving to the capital. She thought it would be better to wait until Madam Su’s pregnancy was more stable before bringing it up.
Chu Heng saw everything and wrapped an arm around her.
Since the due date was near, Lu Sangqi came to the residence every day to examine her.
“You’ve taken good care of your health, just relax during childbirth,” said Lu Sangqi, removing the pillow from the case and asking with concern, “Has the midwife been found?”
Sitting beside her, Madam Liu joined the conversation, “Doctor Lu, we’ve found her.”
