Chapter 25 What’s ‘Respect’?

As soon as he left the ward, the gentle smile that Gu Minghuai had maintained earlier immediately disappeared. Ning Shan planned to go back to the Gu residence to make some food and bring it over, so she said that she wanted to go back.

As soon as she got in the car, the car window was closed, blocking out the noise outside, and the whole world fell silent.

Ning Shan looked at Gu Minghuai beside her, saying gratefully, “Mr. Gu, thank you very much for speaking so much for me in front of mom and dad today. If it weren’t for you, dad definitely wouldn’t have been so enthusiastic about receiving his treatment.”

God knows how much her mood had fluctuated throughout the day. If her dad wasn’t willing to cooperate with the treatment, she really couldn’t do anything about it.

“Ning Shan, my grandmother likes you very much.” He paused for a moment. “Since she likes you, I could force myself to marry you. Since I happen to be short of a wife.”

Ning Shan was stunned. What did he mean by “Just happen to be short of a wife”?

“If it’s not you, it’s someone else. You’re more pleasing to my eye.” Gu Minghuai paused for a moment, nodded to himself, and continued, “Well, your dishes are not bad. Anyways grandmother is very satisfied.”

“Mr. Gu,” Ning Shan did not realize that her voice had become louder. Her throat tightened slightly. “Do you really not care whether the person that you marries is someone that you love or not? Just having your grandmother satisfied would be enough?”

“This is the person you spend your life with! Don’t you have any standards for someone to be your wife? Don’t you care at all about the vows of marriages, that as a married couple they should swear to be through thick and thin?”

Gu Minghuai raised his gorgeous eyebrows and curled the corners of his lips. “Is the love you want so illusory?”

“It’s not illusory,” Ning Shan said matter-of-factly. “If it’s just a form of love or marriage only to please others, then this relationship is not worthy of being called love.”

This young girl was usually timid, but when it came to her view of love she was totally different. Her eyes were shining as Gu Minghuai looked at her with amusement. “So?”

“So I’m telling you very seriously, I refuse your proposal,” Ning Shan said righteously, “I won’t marry you. Mr. Gu, you should learn how to write the word ‘respect’. Marriage is very sacred. We should respect marriage itself.”

Gu Minghuai’s face gradually turned cold. “Are you serious?”

“I’m very serious.” Ning Shan bobbed her head. “But thank you for your help today.”

Gu Minghuai had rarely asked someone about something so patiently. Now that he had spent all his patience on Ning Shan, what he got in return were two consecutive rejections.

The car was eerily silent. Even the driver could not help but sneak a glance at his master from the rearview mirror. When he saw the other party’s gloomy expression, cold sweat dripped from his forehead.

Gu Minghuai’s expression was extremely surly. His eyes were sharp, and his voice was like a thousand cold arrows as he spat out the words, “Stop the car!”
