Wang Lin replied with a smile, “Mother, I haven’t been home for two years and I want us all to have a meal together. I didn’t have the heart to arrange it before because of Little Sister’s issues. But now that Little Sister is divorced and her household registration is settled, let’s have a reunion dinner tonight.”

“Also, as for the girls at home–if they can study, then support them. Whether a son is filial in the future can depend on the wife he marries. Girls are more considerate than boys; if they get educated and make something of themselves, they’ll surely take care of their parents.”

Big Brother Wang, the eldest, was 36 years old this year. He had been married at 18 and had children. His first child was a daughter, so his son was only 15 years old this year. The boy didn’t like studying and had stopped after primary school to work on the farm.
