Chapter 525: Chapter 508: Lu Jiajie Being Sold
Lu Jiaxin was supposed to go on a trip, but because she was worried about Lu Jiajie’s situation, she didn’t go. However, she wasn’t idle, spending every day locked in her room drawing designs.
Five days later, Yan Yijun answered a phone call, then knocked on Lu Jiaxin’s door and said, “Boss, there’s news about Lu Jiajie.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Jiaxin immediately asked, “Is he still alive?”
“He’s still alive.”
Lu Jiaxin’s entire being relaxed, “As long as he’s alive, as long as he’s alive.”
Yan Yijun said in a low voice, “He is alive, but the situation must be bad; he’s been sold by Leng Wu to dig gold in a mine.”
According to Old Geng, it was the men hired by the boss who had to put a Wooden Granary to Leng Wu’s head to get him to tell the truth. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have gotten anything out of him.
“How can we get him out?”
Yan Yijun replied, “Old Geng found a middleman, who said it would cost ten thousand greenbacks to redeem him.”
In the past six months, they had spent over a hundred thousand greenbacks looking for him, and the mercenaries they hired this time cost fifty thousand. Now, if spending ten thousand can redeem him, there was nothing to hesitate about.
“Tell Old Geng to redeem him quickly and then send him home,” said Lu Jiaxin.
It truly was a case of money over life; initially she had repeatedly cautioned to only invest and never go abroad, but it turned out to be no match for greed. She could only hope that this incident would be a lesson learned; if it happened again, she wouldn’t intervene, as he would have brought it on himself if he died.
“Alright.”
That day Lu Jiajie was digging in the mine when suddenly he heard the manager calling his name. He was shocked; every time someone was called out like this, they never reappeared. Could today be his day to die?
Lu Jiajie didn’t want to die. What would become of Qiangqiang and Xiao Feng if he died? In the past few months, he had countless times cursed himself for not listening to Jiaxin’s advice to just invest and wait for dividends rather than going to the Longhairs’. Regret was of no use now; his guts were green with it.
The manager eyed Lu Jiajie with scrutiny. It was the first time in many years that someone’s family had come looking for a person sold to the mine, which showed the influence of the people behind this guy.
Lu Jiajie, though filled with hatred, dared not resist after witnessing the methods of these people and simply bowed his head, not letting them see his angry expression.
The manager stepped forward, shackled Lu Jiajie’s hands, and then said, “Come with me.”
Outside, Lu Jiajie found the manager had taken him to the mine’s office area. This place was the domain of the managers and overseers, and they weren’t allowed near it on a normal day. To kill him they wouldn’t need to bring him here, could it be… with that thought, a glimmer of hope emerged in his chest.
Old Geng saw Lu Jiajie, took out a photo from his pocket to compare, and could barely recognize it was the same person. He asked in Mandarin, “How many brothers do you have in your family?”
Lu Jiajie’s heart was racing, but he still managed to suppress his excitement and answered word by word, “My name is Lu Jiajie; there are three brothers and two sisters in my family, the second brother is adopted out. My father also has two brothers, and he is the middle one. My eldest uncle is the secretary of our village, and he has three sons without a daughter; my younger uncle was the general manager of the Forty-Nine City Department Store and has now retired, with only one daughter, my cousin Lu Jiaxin.”
Though the person was worn out and didn’t quite look the same as the photo, the outline was similar, and asking such specific questions was to avoid any mistakes; being able to answer so clearly showed it was indeed him.
Old Geng didn’t bother with him anymore and turned to speak to the middleman and the person in charge of the mine. After a few words, he handed over a stack of greenbacks to the other party.
The recipient counted the money, and after making sure there was no problem, nodded at the manager who had brought Lu Jiajie over. Then, the locks on Lu Jiajie’s hands were undone.
Seeing him standing there dazed, Old Geng just said, “Let’s go,” and strode out.
Lu Jiajie stood there stunned, could he really leave this place? Was this a dream? However, seeing Old Geng about to leave the house, he snapped out of it and hurried to follow.
Outside of the mining area, Lu Jiajie saw a car parked. Two burly men were sitting in the front, and Old Geng opened the back door and climbed in. Lu Jiajie hurriedly climbed in after him.
After the car started moving, Old Geng asked, “Aren’t you going to ask who I am?”
Lu Jiajie’s mind was still sharp. He said, “I don’t know you, but I’m sure you were sent by my sister to rescue me.”
Old Geng snorted with laughter, “If you’d always been this perceptive, why would you have ended up being sold here to dig for gold?”
His own cousin was a tycoon in Hong Kong, yet he foolishly went to the border to do business himself, truly stupid beyond measure.
Lu Jiajie fell silent. What else could it be? Lured by Leng Wu’s seductive promises, he followed them out of greed, not anticipating it was a trap set by Leng Wu.
Old Geng continued, “The boss sent several teams to look for you, from the Mainland to Moscow, and then from Moscow to the borders, all to no avail. The boss guessed that if it was a trap set by Leng Wu, you wouldn’t dare return to the Mainland and couldn’t possibly stay at the border, so he sent me here to search.”
“I came here with yours and Leng Wu’s portraits, never expected to find out that Leng Wu was actually in Ulaanbaatar. That guy is cunning, conducting business from behind the scenes. If the boss hadn’t been so persistent in searching for you, you would never have been able to leave here like the others at the mining site.”
Lu Jiajie was very ashamed, “How is Jiaxin… is Jiaxin doing well now?”
“The boss is quite well. She’s been worried ever since you went missing, and spent over two hundred thousand greenbacks looking for you,” said Old Geng.
The amount spent to find Lu Jiajie was what Yan Yijun had told Old Geng. It wasn’t to make him repay it, but to let him know the extent of effort and financial cost the boss had expended to find him.
Lu Jiajie gave a wry smile and said, “It’s my fault. If I had listened to her and not gone to Moscow with Leng Wu, none of this would have happened.” “By the way, where is Leng Wu?”
“He was sent to the hospital with burn injuries and is still lying there now. All his goods went up in flames too. The debts he owes, he will never be able to repay in his lifetime.”
Lu Jiajie felt a wave of satisfaction. He naturally wasn’t naive enough to think it was a coincidence; surely the man before him was responsible. He wondered where his sister had found such a capable person.
That day, the group stayed in Ulaanbaatar, in the best hotel. Old Geng also called Lu Jiaxin to report Lu Jiajie had been ransomed, “Boss, I will bring him back to the country tomorrow.”
“Good.”
“Boss, would you like to say a few words to Lu Jiajie?”
Lu Jiaxin didn’t want to talk to Lu Jiajie right now, “No need, we’ll talk after he gets back to the Forty-nine City. His health must be poor; please take good care of him on the journey.”
“Don’t worry, boss, I will make sure he gets home safely,” said Old Geng. Out of all the jobs he had taken on, this one was the most relaxed.
The next morning, Old Geng took Lu Jiajie to catch the train back.
When heading to the train station, Lu Jiajie saw that it was only him and asked, “What about the two brothers from yesterday? Aren’t they coming with us?”
Seeing his concerned expression, Old Geng explained, “They were brought in to assist me by the boss, and now that the job’s done, they have their own homes to go back to. You have nothing to worry about, we’ll be safe once we cross the border and return to the country tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
