Chapter 615: Chapter Six Hundred Fifteen: Entering E City Base Again
“It’s just about asking her to drive a car, look at that aloof appearance of hers,”
Zhong Xiaomin said as she watched Song Qin greet everyone and then turn to walk towards the armored vehicle.
“Were those two injured just now? Why can’t they even drive a car?”
Someone muttered.
“It’s good that they are injured. Song Qin didn’t realize the danger and eagerly joined in,”
“Enough, let’s not talk about this,”
Nie Xingbang, anxious and upset, interjected. They were nearing the E city base, but for some reason, he felt no joy or relief about safely arriving.
Looking back at the car behind them, it seemed to have pulled over by the roadside. However, Old Liu, seeing the base finally within sight, didn’t wait for the armored car and continued driving towards the base.
“Aren’t we leaving?”
Song Qin asked Lu Hao, sitting in the passenger seat, while the Metal Element Ability User was in the back row, next to an extremely cute, bright-furred little monkey.
“No hurry, let’s wait a while,”
Lu Hao tossed a packet of biscuits to Song Qin, telling her to eat them to pass the time. They didn’t want to enter the base with that group.
However, Song Qin was shocked by the packet of biscuits. She remembered that in Fu Li’s space, everyone only got a single piece of biscuit per meal, but this whole large packet was for her?!
“We might have to wait more than an hour, eat these to pass the time,”
Lu Hao said, looking out the window.
Song Qin nodded, but after just eating two pieces, carefully tucked the rest back into her pocket.
The biscuits were milk-flavored and, being freshly opened, they melted in her mouth right after crunching under her teeth, completely different from the soft, moist biscuits Fu Li handed out.
This was probably the tastiest biscuit she had ever had in her life…
As time ticked by, Song Qin felt the atmosphere in the car grow strange. Why were these two men just sitting quietly, one in front and one behind, not speaking at all? Was it because of her presence?
Just as Song Qin was starting to feel uneasy, the man beside her finally spoke, “Let’s go. When we arrive at the city gate, no matter what you see or hear, don’t speak, alright?”
“Okay,”
Song Qin nodded emphatically, and then Lu Hao tossed her a large pack of square bread.
So this was hush money?
Song Qin accepted the bread that felt extremely soft to the touch, and silently zipped her mouth shut.
At the E city base’s entrance, it seemed that Fu Li and the others had already successfully entered.
After Song Qin wrote down her name at the registration desk, she noticed that the Metal Element Ability User in the car behind hadn’t gotten out to register. Just as she was about to ask why, she suddenly remembered the man’s earlier words and wisely chose to remain silent.
“Just the two of you?”
The gate officer asked suspiciously–as nowadays, it was rare to see just two people together; usually, they moved in groups.
“Yes, our people are all…”
Lu Hao spoke and then stopped, merely signing his own name at the registry: Chen Daming.
The officer understood, guessing that the companions of the two must have died. However, after Lu Hao handed over the Crystal Core, they still went ahead and checked inside the vehicle.
Song Qin was stunned to watch the two officers, who said nothing after their inspection, finding it strange. What about the Metal Element Ability User behind them?
“Wait over there for an hour, and then you can go in,”
After saying this to them, the officer ignored the two, finding no goods in their car–it’s indeed a time where everyone arrived poorer than the last.
Holding onto Local Tyrant Gold, Lian Jiyue let out a sigh of relief. This little monkey was rather useful; it could really come in handy in crucial moments.
Song Qin drove the car into the fenced area described by the staff, and although she was curious about how the Metal Element Ability User suddenly disappeared, she did not ask anything.
Lu Hao seemed very satisfied with Song Qin’s performance. After successfully getting into the base, he rented a studio apartment for her.
“You’ll live here for the next couple of days. I’ll come back to get your help with driving. I’ve already paid a year’s rent for this apartment. After we leave, it will be yours. How about that?”
Lu Hao tried to ask, taking this extra step as a precaution. The zombie had initially faced him directly; if people in the base’s laboratory noticed him, perhaps he wouldn’t have been able to drive out of the city gate smoothly.
“You guys saved my life. It’s just driving, and I’m happy to help you out. Besides, I really like this apartment,”
Song Qin agreed without hesitation.
Lu Hao nodded, handed her both keys, and then left.
They would have to wait until the evening to search for the “treasure” Lian Jiyue had mentioned.
“All set?”
Lian Jiyue asked Lu Hao as he got into the car and let go of Local Tyrant Gold.
“Hopefully, I guess,”
Lu Hao wasn’t sure if Song Qin would cooperate with them when the time came. If not, he would have to resort to seeking out Cen Chu and others he had previously worked with.
…
The 700,000 Crystal Cores that Lian Jiyue had mentioned were right in the backyard of his former residence.
However, the backyard was completely sealed off, probably due to the presence of zombies before. Even though it was night, one could still see the desolate scenery inside.
Local Tyrant Gold rolled his eyes, feeling utterly miserable as he was led by one man on each side, forgotten by his mistress and forced to work by his master, gradually becoming merely a tool monkey!
However, Lu Hao completely disregarded these matters. Being a captain for so many years, this was perhaps his first time “acting like a thief” in his life…
Lian Jiyue looked emotionlessly at the dark yard, his heart strangely calm. He had thought revisiting his old home would be sentimental, but at the moment, all he could think about was the first time he and Qiqi had locked eyes.
He must have frightened Qiqi back then, hadn’t he?
Thinking about this, Lian Jiyue couldn’t help but smile.
“What are you laughing at?”
Lu Hao couldn’t help but ask.
“Nothing, just follow me,”
Lian Jiyue led Lu Hao to a rockery in the yard and then slipped through a crack in the middle.
“Only my father and I know about this place,”
After finding a switch in a crevice and pressing it, Lian Jiyue released Local Tyrant Gold and forcefully moved a stone, revealing a hidden chamber.
It was indeed a hidden room.
Although Lu Hao couldn’t see the inside from where he stood, he could feel the damp air wafting from it.
Lian Jiyue sealed the Stone Gate back and led Lu Hao inside.
Snap~
A beam of light appeared in Lian Jiyue’s hand; he had pulled out a flashlight, which was enough for the two to clearly see what was inside the dark room.
Lu Hao thought to himself, if only Xiao Jin were here.
The dark room was filled with neatly stacked burlap sacks, inside which, without a doubt, were Crystal Cores.
