Chapter 622: Chapter 622: Some Memories
News that Lu Hao had accepted the mission spread quickly among the family, but Xue Wanyi insisted on participating as well.
He was on vacation these days. As a bachelor, he didn’t want to idle away his time in the villa. The task Lu Hao mentioned had piqued his interest, so he made a strong request to join.
“You can come along, but remember, our mission is not about killing as many zombies as possible, but about eliminating the target zombies as thoroughly as possible,”
Lu Hao didn’t mind his teammates following, but given Xue Wanyi’s personality, he would surely want to wipe out any group of zombies they encountered, whereas this time they were specifically there to clear the Multi-Element Zombies.
So far, the drones had only captured images of some Multi-Element Zombies in several locations. It was very likely that more existed in areas the drones couldn’t reach, so they had to traverse the entire city.
“Brother-in-law, take me with you. I’m at a stage with my Level Six Card where I’m just one breakthrough away from advancing,”
Lin Xiuyuan also joined in, frustrated by his inability to progress. He woke up every morning hoping it would be the day he would advance, only to go to bed disappointed every night. It was utterly miserable.
“Aren’t you supposed to be on vacation?”
Lu Hao asked with a smile, remembering how Lin Xiuyuan had been the one clamoring about staying at home during his holiday.
“Xiao Hao, just take him along, and save him from anxiously bouncing around the house like a monkey,”
Huang Yunxiang said disdainfully. Every time she tried to focus on baking sweets, Lin Xiuyuan would nag her about not advancing yet, to the point where she wished she could tape his mouth shut.
“How many Multi-Element Zombies are there?”
Su Jin asked.
“The drone captured about fifteen or sixteen in total. We’ve noted down those locations and will focus on inspecting them,”
Lu Hao replied.
Although the Multi-Element Zombies were not very dangerous for now, they couldn’t help but worry. If those zombies gradually adapted to the Crystal Core in their heads, it would become troubling.
“Those people researching this must be insane, aren’t there enough people dead in the apocalypse? Creating something so dangerous, what will happen if it causes a major disaster later?”
Su Xiangzhe said angrily, as all of humanity was busy exterminating zombies, yet there were always those mad scientists obsessed with their research.
“They might be doing it to study the Multi-Element Special Ability Users,”
Su Jin said, having perhaps heard of some things in her previous life that most hadn’t.
She remembered that a rather famous Three Series Special Ability User had appeared during the apocalypse, but she had never met this person or known their strength before she died.
“What use is that stuff if one’s special ability power is exhausted? No matter how many abilities you have, it’s useless, right?”
Lin Xiuyuan retorted. The power of a Special Ability User wasn’t determined by the Crystal Core in their head. Even with multiple abilities, they could only serve a supportive role.
“Who knows, maybe it’s for… dominating the world?”
Su Jin responded with a laugh, seeing such artificially created Multi-Element Special Ability Users as more of a formidable concept than a reality.
“Anyway, no matter what, as long as they come, we will kill them. If they offend us again, since we’ve blown it up once, we can certainly do it again,”
Lu Hao said, sipping on the juice Huang Yunxiang had handed him. Those people had started their schemes in City S, which clearly showed they had ulterior motives towards the City S base.
This base, after all, was the base they all defended together.
“Yeah, good idea. Next time we blow it up, make sure to take me along,”
Su Jin had a deep-seated loathing for the Research Institute at E City Base, probably because of the tremendous impact Su Xiangmei and Luo Hui had on her.
…
At night, under Lian Jiyue’s guidance, Lu Hao went to the rooftop terrace of the villa.
“Did you need me for something?”
Lu Hao asked.
“Nothing much, I just wanted to tell you that the Research Institute at E City Base is actually owned by the Han Family, and the Han Family’s research institutes aren’t limited to E City Base. The main headquarters is inside B City Base,”
Lian Jiyue recalled, E City Base… perhaps it was something like one of their experimental locations?
“So you’re reminding us that if we need to blow something up, we should blow up both?”
Lu Hao said with a laugh.
Lian Jiyue was stunned for a moment, then laughed as well, probably only Lu Hao could say something so bold!
“I’ll be free to go out tomorrow,”
Lian Jiyue said.
“To your father’s place?” Lu Hao asked.
“You guessed it again,”
Lian Jiyue sighed, but then again, that was the only place he would go in this base.
After chatting with Lu Hao for a while, Lian Jiyue returned to his room, which was decorated in a soft and delicate style by Mao Qiqi. The little girl really treated him like a small companion, Lian Jiyue couldn’t help but think.
Under the pink curtains, there was a desk with an old, curled-up workbook on it. It was obviously many years old; he had stuffed it into his pocket from a dark room at E City Base.
It was just an ordinary elementary school workbook. He flipped to the parent signature section after each homework assignment, looking at the familiar handwriting, his lips also curved into a smile.
Back then, it was still popular in school for parents to sign off on homework after it was marked by the teacher. His workbook never lacked Lian Zongren’s signature after each day’s homework.
The school-going him thought it was normal, but now, looking back, Lian Zongren, however busy or late he came back, would not leave that simple task to someone else to do. He would sign it himself.
He didn’t know why he had put such a useless workbook in the dark room to preserve it, nor did he know why he had brought it back now; perhaps it was one of the few things from that home that made him feel warmth.
He put the workbook deep into the drawer, then Lian Jiyue finally lay back on the bed to rest.
He overheard that tomorrow, Su Jin was going to teach Qiqi how to recognize characters at home, so his outing shouldn’t catch the little girl’s attention…
Inside the Wood Spirit Space, Lin Xiuyuan took pleasure in the catastrophe as he watched Mao Qiqi, who was being forced by Lin Tianzhen to do test papers.
It was also thanks to Su Jin for acquiring that bookstore back then; it had quite a few textbooks and test papers which Lin Tianzhen now used, proclaiming loudly that Qiqi must not fall behind and become a little illiterate.
“If you were still in school, you would be starting to prepare for middle school now. Don’t always think about fighting; if you can’t recognize even the words later, it would be too embarrassing,”
Lin Tianzhen, transformed into a parental homework tutor, earnestly said.
“I know, Mom, I am so smart, I won’t become a little illiterate. I’ll read lots of books and study hard in the future,”
Mao Qiqi had no objections, having heard that her brother-in-law was so intelligent because he read a lot. Thus, she also wanted to read more and study diligently.
