Chapter 1448: Chapter 1420: The Imminent Crisis of the Great Qian Empire
“JR’s boss, Jack, does indeed have some unspeakable hobbies, and although our old man doesn’t say it, I can feel that he despises him,” said Eldest Brother, who had turned into a gossip aficionado, as he began to chat with Kiara.
Mario Yuno spontaneously went to make coffee; Kiara, holding Wendy, posed them carefully, ears perked up to listen.
“Don’t look at how JR introduces new talent every year, but in reality, they eliminate even more people. Many of their members are cultivated from a young age, just like Akatenango, they are selected through IQ tests to join JR, and gradually nurtured.”
“What’s so strange about that? Didn’t you all grow up following my dad?”
“Is that the same? Our farmstead doesn’t just randomly accept outsiders; these Senior Brothers all have relationships from the previous generation. Growing up with the old man, it was said to be learning skills, but in fact, the old man didn’t really manage us, just let us roam free according to each person’s characteristics, completely different from the special methods of JR, do you know how they train them?”
Mario Yuno brought over the freshly brewed coffee and casually joined the conversation.
“What do they do?”
“They conduct breakdown-style training based on each person’s weaknesses. Those who can’t psychologically handle it end up insane.”
Kiara could never have imagined such an abhorrent place, treating people like tools, using medical skills meant to heal for profit, and even forming a sinister industry chain.
“I’m not quite sure why the old man took in Aka, but I’m guessing it has something to do with JR’s Akatenango. So when you take Aka to compete tomorrow, the outcome is very important. Winning not only means Aka overcomes his fears but also indirectly slaps JR in the face. Frankly speaking, although our sides don’t have the kind of animosity where it’s life or death, our stands are different, our old man disdains fame and profit but has snatched a lot of the limelight from them. They must hate us, and if you win–”
“I can properly disgust them,” Kiara understood.
“That’s the idea,” Farmbright Farmer patted Kiara’s shoulder, “Go on, you little troublemaker, bring out that irritating energy you use on us, go all out, win, and your Senior Brothers will treat you to a feast.”
After Farmbright Farmer left, Kiara zoned out in the direction of her daughter.
Wendy sat on the bed playing with her dad’s wallet, flipping and turning it over repeatedly, while Mario Yuno wrapped an arm around Kiara’s shoulder.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I’m wondering what kind of person could be so despicable as to harm innocent children.”
Kiara thought about children, teenagers, and even those as young as a few years old, being treated in such a manner, and it made her scalp tingle.
She was a parent too, and if anyone dared to harm her child, she would fight to her last breath for revenge. Yet those children without families had no one to complain to; they were turned into tools for making money.
If they couldn’t learn, they’d become live test subjects and be cast aside; if they succeeded, they’d end up like Molly Palmer, appearing glamorous yet scarred within, unable to integrate into normal society. They should have become doctors to heal and save people, yet they couldn’t even save themselves.
“Feeling sorry for Molly Palmer?” Mario Yuno asked.
Kiara nodded and then shook her head. “Sympathy and forgiveness are two different things. I feel sorry for her experiences but do not forgive her actions.”
Having learned the inside story of JR, Kiara was upset all night long. Previously participating in the dark psychological betting with Eldest Brother had already turned her worldview upside down, and now she was shocked to find out JR was cultivating new talent in such a way.
Behind the sunlight, there was darkness untouched, and an Akatenango was just the tip of the iceberg. Who knows how many more children were being pressured to grow in abnormal ways.
Kiara spent the night tossing and turning; Mario Yuno saw her discomfort and was anxious.
This was something Mario Yuno could understand better than anyone else. Kiara’s current state of mind was similar to his when he first encountered Baron, easily shaken in faith upon witnessing the darkest scenes of an industry.
Camden was worried that her mood might affect the competition the next day. When the next morning came, he woke up early, intending to buy breakfast for Kiara, but when he reached out, he found nothing there.
Mario Yuno sat up with a jolt. Where was his daughter-in-law?
The bathroom door swung open, and there stood Kiara, full of energy, dressed in a crisp white suit, her makeup perfect, her eyes shining with a strong sense of self-assurance; she was utterly self-satisfied, leaving Mario Yuno stunned.
“What are you looking at? Aren’t you going to get up quickly, wake our girl, get dressed, and let’s have breakfast!”
Kiara’s energized state was totally different from what Mario Yuno had expected. He was concerned she might be upset, but instead, she was fiercer than before. Her entrance alone exuded the aura of a Big Boss, not like she was ready for a competition but as if she was about to ascend a podium. He wouldn’t be surprised if she clenched her fist and declared, “Our journey is the stars and sea.”
“Honey, what is this–are you…” Off your meds?
Kiara gave him a glance, and Mario Yuno swallowed the second half of his sentence. With her spirits this high, any sign of negativity would easily get him axed by his ambitious wife!
“I’ve thought about it. There’s a lot of darkness in the world, and it’s hard to say any industry is 100 percent clean. As long as it doesn’t touch my interests, I’m not inclined to meddle in that mess. But anyone who dares to bump into my gun barrel–no mercy!”
She spoke with such vigor, and Mario Yuno loved it.
This was his daughter-in-law, he loved her ferocious streak.
Mario Yuno threw back the covers and muttered to himself with a hint of regret.
“I thought I’d have to use a shot to help you decompress, but you’ve already recovered… alas, the husband is useless…”
“Stop playing around! Hurry up and get the Kid ready. After breakfast, we’ll find Aka. I need to get Aka ready before the race starts.”
Mario Yuno stood with his hands on his hips, swaying slightly, but he obediently went to the bathroom before Kiara could blow a gasket. Just before he closed the door, Kiara heard him muttering quietly.
Kiara’s mouth twitched in a slight smirk; with a natural fool like that by her side, how could she possibly stay nervous?
Just wondered how Aka was holding up, and whether Zoel Cohen had, like the unscrupulous Camden, helped Aka decompress before the race.
