Chapter 1449: Chapter 1421: Camden Runs Away with a Fox Spirit
Kiara braced herself for the sight of Aka with dark circles under her eyes, looking worn out, but instead she found that Aka wasn’t lying in bed asleep; it was Zoel Cohen who came over, yawning and listless.
“You battled with someone until daybreak?” Mario Yuno raised an eyebrow.
Zoel Cohen snorted, “I wish.”
Seeing how soundly Aka was sleeping, not waking even as people entered, Kiara asked Zoel Cohen.
“What method did you use to put her to sleep?”
Zoel Cohen glanced at Mario Yuno; the youngest brother of the Yuno family had such a sleazy look in his eyes, probably imagining something unspeakable.
Mr. Zoel really wanted to boast that he “put his body to work” and tired someone out enough to fall asleep.
But considering that Emma Clark was a professional psychologist, lying to her would be like the emperor’s new clothes; hence, Mr. Zoel could only confess honestly.
“I added sleeping pills to her milk before sleep.”
And then she slept until daybreak.
Mario Yuno’s sleazy look instantly turned into one of disdain, provoking Mr. Zoel to anger and embarrassment.
“She was already like that yesterday, how could I make a move? Things were unclear and couldn’t be explained; she wouldn’t listen to reason or excuses, and I couldn’t just watch her be sleepless and upset over someone unrelated.”
A man has sympathy for his own woman; Zoel Cohen didn’t feel sorry for Molly Palmer at all, but couldn’t interfere with Aka’s saddened heart. Seeing her emotional and hard to communicate with, Zoel Cohen couldn’t learn Kiara’s way of persuading, so he simply administered some medicine to put her to sleep.
“You did well; cooling down emotions is also a way of dealing with problems.”
Seeing that Aka was still sleeping and it was still early, Kiara gestured with her hand.
“You two take the child to breakfast, wait for us for an hour, then I’ll come down to find you, and we’ll head to the venue together.”
Mario Yuno, carrying Wendy, was chased out along with Zoel Cohen, who worriedly looked back at Aka repeatedly.
“It’s fine; my daughter-in-law is here, what are you scared of? Come on, let’s go downstairs for breakfast.”
Mario Yuno dragged Zoel Cohen along, knowing full well that Kiara was likely giving Aka a brainwashing style pep talk and wasn’t worried a bit.
There was a restaurant downstairs in the hotel offering Western buffet-style breakfast, and when the two walked in, Edward Farmbright was already there, eating leisurely.
“Where’s the junior leader?” Edward Farmbright waved at Mario Yuno.
“Pumping Aka up,” Mario Yuno glanced at Edward Farmbright’s plate; the breakfast didn’t look very appetizing.
“Is it good?”
Edward Farmbright shrugged, “So delicious. Feel free to give it a try.”
This kind of dark cuisine was better shared than ruining just one’s own stomach, so of course he invited everyone to taste it.
By the look on his face, it didn’t seem appetizing, and Mario Yuno wouldn’t be fooled; the eggs flowed out mixed with egg whites at the cut of the knife, looking repulsive. He could guess his daughter-in-law wouldn’t like it.
“I’m going to buy breakfast for my daughter-in-law; Zoel Cohen, you stay here, I’ll come back for you later.”
“Where are you going?” Zoel Cohen asked.
“I remember there’s a snack stall on the street ahead; I’m going to check it out.”
Zoel Cohen, concerned about Aka and fearing she’d look for him upon waking, didn’t follow and found a place to have breakfast on his own.
Time ticked away. It was unclear how Kiara was doing with her comforting. After having breakfast, Zoel Cohen checked the time, only half an hour had passed and Mario Yuno still hadn’t returned. He didn’t dare go up and disturb Kiara’s therapy session.
So Mr. Zoel ordered another cup of coffee to wait for Mario Yuno to come back.
Time continued to pass, and Mario Yuno still hadn’t returned.
Zoel Cohen found it strange. The snack stand wasn’t far from here, and Youngest Brother of the Yuno Family had been gone for too long. There couldn’t be a problem, could there? He called Camden, but the phone rang without an answer.
Zoel Cohen couldn’t figure out what Mario Yuno was up to, and he didn’t dare to leave the hotel rashly. He could only sit and wait for him to return. After another half hour or so, Mario Yuno still wasn’t back, but Kiara and Aka came downstairs instead.
Aka seemed to have red eyes, but her spirits were fairly good, probably spurred on by Kiara’s pre-competition pep talk. Zoel Cohen stared at Aka for a while and noticed that she wasn’t having the mental breakdown he expected. Though her eyes were red, they contained a determination that wasn’t present the night before. It seemed that Emma Clark’s skills were as strong as ever.
“Where’s my Camden?” Kiara asked when she didn’t see Mario Yuno and Wendy.
“He said he went out to buy breakfast for you, and he’s been gone for over an hour now.”
When Kiara heard he had been gone so long, she frowned, “Did you call him?”
They were strangers in a strange place; why would he take so long? It was almost time to head for the competition venue–how could he not come back?
Kiara, uneasy, decided to call Mario Yuno. The phone rang for a long time before he answered, his voice sounding heavy.
“Kiara, my love.”
“Where are you?”
“I’ve run into a bit of trouble here. You all go ahead to the venue. I might be a little late. I just called Farmbright Farmer to come over. He will take Willa back.”
There was a lot of noise on the other end of the phone. Kiara could only make out some local language being spoken hurriedly, and there seemed to be a translator relaying information to Mario Yuno. She vaguely heard phrases like “medical expenses are very expensive.”
“Who’s sick? Are you okay?” Kiara’s heart skipped a beat. Could Camden have gotten into some trouble outside?
“It’s not me. I encountered an old acquaintance–it’s a long story. I’ll explain when I get back. You just focus on the competition.”
Kiara was confused. She could tell that Mario Yuno was evidently in a bad mood, but he also said he was fine. So what was all this about medical expenses?
About ten minutes later, Farmbright Farmer arrived, carrying Willa in his arms.
The fact that Mario Yuno sent his child back was proof enough that he was indeed stretched too thin at the moment.
“What’s he doing?” Kiara asked Farmbright Farmer.
Farmbright Farmer checked the time–it was nearly time to go–and told Kiara, “Get in the car first, and I’ll tell you on the way.”
Once in the car, Kiara nervously urged Farmbright Farmer to speak, while Zoel Cohen casually made a remark.
“Could it be that the Youngest at the foreign place took the opportunity to seek pleasures of the flesh and got caught. Enraged, he injured someone, and now they’ve detained him?”
Kiara glared at Zoel Cohen furiously. Mr. Zoel touched his nose, “Just a joke.”
“It’s not funny!” Her Camden wasn’t a quick shooter. Even if he were to cheat, he wouldn’t use the short time of buying breakfast to do it; the timing simply didn’t match up!
“You’re half right about this–” Farmbright Farmer began but was interrupted by the change in Kiara’s expression.
“He really went?” She simply couldn’t believe her husband would do such a thing.
Farmbright Farmer turned to look at her, grinning mischievously. Realizing she had fallen into her Senior Brother’s trap, Kiara quickly adopted a carefree attitude.
“As if I’d believe that. My Camden isn’t some eternally single guy. With a beautiful wife at home, he’d have to be out of his mind to look elsewhere. Of course, I understand why you’d try to besmirch my man, with your twisted mind. When someone’s lower regions are blocked up for too long, it’s bound to affect the brain too, right Senior Brother?”
