The servant nodded, carrying the well-fed and now sleeping Ji Lanyue into the bathroom.

Ji Tingyang and Ji Zeqiu followed as well.

“Why let a servant bathe her? They are too rough, not as careful as I am.” Tang Biquin, not reassured, struggled to go over.

“You’re in a wheelchair now, how can you bathe her?” Mr. Lin held her wheelchair, stopping her from moving closer, “Just sit still, we need to discuss something.”

“What is it?” Tang Biquin asked.

“All Ji Yiyun wants is the inheritance; let’s just give it to her in exchange for the children’s custody. Anyway, we have several million in savings, which is more than enough for raising the three children, better than having them suffer over there,” Mr. Lin said.

Tang Biquin fell silent, seemingly pondering the matter.

“When I went to see them this morning, they had already gone hungry all night, and the room they were staying in was even smaller than our bathroom. They are making those two small children clean the bathroom, I just can’t stand it,” Mr. Lin sighed.

Hearing this, Tang Biquin’s chest heaved emotionally for a moment, “Alright, let’s do as you say.”

The three children ended up staying at the Lin Family’s home until the evening.

Ji Yiyun seemed to have forgotten about the three children, not calling to check on them nor urging them to come back.

It only made sense for Mr. Lin to keep them there.

However, even though her grandchildren were living at home, Tang Biquin would occasionally become absent-minded, often calling Lin Xu’s name in her dreams, and would stare blankly during the day.

Seeing her staring out the window again that day, Ji Tingyang asked in confusion, “Grandpa, what’s wrong with grandma?”

Mr. Lin’s heart sank.

He knew Tang Biquin was missing her daughter again.

“Grandma has been in a bad mood these days; why don’t you go talk to her more to cheer her up?” Mr. Lin patted his head.

Ji Tingyang nodded docilely, resting his head on Tang Biquin’s lap, “Grandma, let’s play a game together?”

Tang Biquin’s train of thought was brought back, a smile lifting the corners of her lips, “Sure, Tingyang, what game do you want to play?”

“Building blocks.” Ji Tingyang spilled his blocks on the floor.

Nearby, Ji Lanyue watched curiously, managed to turn over, and slowly crawled over, grabbing a block and stuffing it in her mouth.

“Don’t eat that, it’s dirty,” Ji Tingyang reproachfully pulled the block from her mouth, his face stern like a little adult.

Ji Lanyue seemed indifferent to her brother’s scolding, blowing a bubble with spit at him. The bubble grew larger until it burst, splashing Ji Tingyang in the face with saliva.

Ji Tingyang impassively wiped the saliva off his face.

The culprit lay on the floor giggling non-stop.

Watching the interaction between the two, the frown on Tang Biquin’s face gradually faded, and a hint of a smile tinged her eyes.

Another week passed.

Tang Biquin’s condition remained unstable, and her legs had not recovered, relegating her to the wheelchair.

She spent increasingly more time daydreaming during the day, and her sleep at night was restless, tossing and turning with severe insomnia.

Mr. Lin took her to see a doctor, who said her condition was due to excessive worrying and emotional depression, suggesting that recovery could only be achieved by resolving her inner conflicts.

Mr. Lin knew that her heartache was mostly about Lin Xu, along with the guilt of not having protected her grandchild well last time.

Mr. Lin, apart from consoling her frequently, could only let the three children spend more time with her, in hopes that someday she would come to terms with it and get better.

“In another hour, Ting Yang and Zeqiu will be out of school. How about we go pick them up together?” Mr. Lin asked.

During this period, Tang Biquin found it inconvenient to travel, so Mr. Lin was the one taking the children to and from school.

Hearing about going out to pick up the children, a vacant look on Tang Biquin’s face withdrew, “Okay.”

Preschool dismissed half an hour earlier than elementary school, so they went to pick up Ji Zeqiu first.

Ji Zeqiu, carrying his little backpack, saw Tang Biquin from a distance and his face lit up with a bright smile; he hurried toward her, calling out, “Grandma!”

In a dazed moment,
Tang Biquin thought she saw Lin Xu as a child.

When her daughter was young, even from a distance, she would run toward her with the same joy after spotting her.

It was as if she had returned to an earlier time; her eyes reddening, she spread her arms to receive her daughter.

Tang Biquin held her tightly, then suddenly realized the figure in her arms had turned into Ji Zeqiu, and she was taken aback.

“Grandma, what’s wrong?” Ji Zeqiu blinked, asking in confusion.

“I… I’m fine.” Tang Biquin shook her head, dispelling the fantasies in her mind.

Mr. Lin took the backpack from Ji Zeqiu’s hand and asked with concern, “Were you well-behaved at school today?”

“Very well-behaved. The teacher praised me and gave me a little red flower.” Ji Zeqiu proudly showed the red flower sticker on his hand to them.

“Our Zeqiu is truly amazing.” Tang Biquin smiled.

After picking up Ji Zeqiu, the driver then headed to the elementary school.

The school bell rang, and Ji Tingyang was packing up his stationery when suddenly a wad of paper hit his head.

Ji Tingyang turned around to see a little boy smirking and making a face at him.

“Did you throw the paper?” Ji Tingyang looked at him.

“So what if I did?” the little boy said nonchalantly.

Ji Tingyang demanded, “Apologize to me.”

“I won’t apologize. Go tell your parents if you dare,” the little boy said and suddenly burst out laughing, “Oh, I forgot, you don’t have parents.”

A group of classmates nearby also started to laugh loudly and before Ji Tingyang could react, they all ran out of the classroom.

Ji Tingyang’s face turned steely, and he bit his lip, silently walking towards the school gate with his backpack.

As he reached the gate, he saw Ji Zeqiu waving at him cheerfully from the car window, calling him “Brother.”

And beside Ji Zeqiu was Tang Biquin, also smiling and waving at him.

Ji Tingyang’s lips curled up slightly, and just as he was about to step forward, the classmates who had mocked him in the classroom appeared behind him.

“A child without a mom is like a weed, whose song is that? Oh, it’s Ji Tingyang’s.”
