Chapter 1283: Afterword Chapter 1283: Afterword From the beginning, what I was most dissatisfied with was the character setting for the mother, Ye Shuxian. This was a flaw. Additionally, An Na’s unrequited love was also a shortcoming. In fact, setting up An Na with unrequited love could still be acceptable, but the problem was that I shouldn’t have introduced Li Lixue and Dong Wan as confidantes without developing that kind of relationship. I believe, had it been so, this book might have been more outstanding.
Also, in terms of pacing, overall, I am not satisfied with how it was handled in the early stages of the story. Older Brother took steps too quickly. Even though it was exciting, I admit that I didn’t write with enough detail or depth, which led to the story becoming unmanageable, like a wild horse breaking free from its reins. This is Old Cai’s greatest regret.
Let me talk about how I felt after writing up to the level of departmental-level officials. In fact, starting from when the story was set in Wanghai City, the characters were already at the deputy departmental level. I wrote nearly two million characters about departmental-level officials. The entire book is only three million eight hundred thousand characters long. Writing such a long segment about departmental-level officials, and keeping it relatively exciting, is both an honor and a source of pride for me.
However, as everyone knows, grassroots material is easier to write because there are fewer restrictions. When it comes to higher levels, there are many more limitations that bind you. Furthermore, typical web novel elements like showing off, stepping on others, construction, development–when you get to this level, it really doesn’t have the same flavor when you write it.
You tell me, could a provincial party secretary realistically get into a fight with street thugs? So, in the past few months, every day, Old Cai has had to think for over three hours about how to write and arrange the plot of the old book. This was a kind of torment. Towards the end, it had become a form of torture for me. Perhaps this is why I decided to end the old book.
Writing originated from a hobby, but now it has become a responsibility. If it were just for the hobby, I could spare myself the agony, but for the sake of responsibility, for not letting down the support of my brothers and sisters, I must persevere. That is what responsibility means.
In these recent two months, I have often considered that the current plot mostly deals with more abstract matters, with less attention to practical work. There is less about getting real work done and more about discussing policies.
The plot doesn’t have many highlights anymore, and I believe that continuing further would be irresponsible to both myself and to everyone else. To put it bluntly, that would be deceiving everyone out of their subscriptions and money. So after much deliberation, I have decided to end it.
Additionally, writing up to now, three characters have reached the peak of power, and I really don’t dare to write further. Moreover, even now, I don’t know how to write it. When it comes to matters at the level of the Nine Tripod, I’ve seen a lot, but within that, there are too many abstract, national policy-oriented, directive matters. Therefore, it’s also difficult to write. To force myself to continue in an improper manner would only increase the flaws for the scions of great families. That’s something I do not wish to see.
Overall, “Scions of the Great Houses” is filled with my joy, my moments of glory, and also our mutual affection and reluctance to part.
“Scions of the Great Houses” has many areas of regret. But I am glad and moved that everyone has been understanding.
All good things must come to an end. I know that when the final chapter comes out, many of my brothers and sisters may feel disappointed, dissatisfied, or even angry. Perhaps there will also be those who understand. But all I can say is, I’ve done my best. I’ve put my heart into it.
