Chapter 766: Chapter 766: So, how do you plan to thank me?
Leaving the hospital, Abigail and Brandon Piers returned to the manor.
On their way back, the interview at the courthouse had already made it to the trending topics. The scene of Brandon Piers forcibly escorting Abigail into the car captivated many people.
Though they were not from the fan circle, they suddenly had slash fans.
Previously, many thought Brandon Piers was a sickly person. But his stance of answering questions for Abigail, his strong protection of her, and the undeniable affection in his eyes when he looked at Abigail moved people even through the screen.
Those who doubted their relationship as a plastic engagement were proven wrong.
However, beyond the gossip, people were more curious about the future of the Piers and the outcome of Brandon Piers’ trial in ten days.
Joshua Piers leaned against his office chair, listening to his assistant’s report with indifference. Only when the assistant mentioned Abigail did he half-heartedly interrupt, “That’s enough, you can go.”
“Yes.” The assistant responded cautiously, glanced briefly at the office sofa, lowered his head, and quietly exited, closing the door behind him.
Once the door closed, Joshua dialed a number. “How has Third Uncle considered it?”
“You can’t force me.” Half-paralyzed, Oliver Piers attempted to sound imposing, but his words came out weak and unthreatening.
“Third Uncle, wise people understand the current situation. Do you think those shares in your hands still hold any value? Or do you truly believe Brandon Piers holding power is more beneficial to you than me?” Joshua chuckled.
“You’re all ambitious drifters. I’m disabled and don’t have such grandiose wishes–only peace. I won’t sell the shares.” Oliver Piers was not foolish. Selling the shares to Joshua would spell his end.
What kind of person was Joshua? He wouldn’t naively think Joshua was better than Brandon.
But there was one thing Brandon had that Joshua didn’t: a bottom line.
At least Brandon operated within the law despite his hatred. Joshua was different.
This person had a dark side.
No one knew what he might do when desperate.
But Oliver’s words sounded laughable to Joshua. If Oliver only wanted peace, he wouldn’t have to do so much.
Oliver felt a wave of unease at Joshua’s laughter, and he abruptly hung up.
But not long after, his phone received a video, and his face twisted in agony as he lay in his hospital bed. He threw the phone away.
But after considering his situation, he ordered his wife to pick up the phone and shakily dialed back. “I agree with you.”
Joshua was not surprised by this outcome, a smile playing on his lips. “Thank you, Third Uncle.”
Oliver’s hand holding the phone showed visible veins, and he didn’t dare to hang up on Joshua again.
Joshua could almost see his expression and chuckled softly, leaning back in his leather executive chair, playing with the pen in his hand. His slender eyes filled with determination looked toward the uninvited guest on the sofa. “Any instructions, Mr. Ray?”
“Ha, dare I?” The standard European handsome man squeezed out a line of French.
Joshua shrugged. “Show the guest out.”
…
Moon Lake Manor.
Just as Oliver relented, Brandon received the news.
His handsome amber eyes narrowed slightly after hearing Kelvin Max’s report. “Don’t intervene. Focus entirely on the court.”
Kelvin continued working.
Abigail was slightly puzzled. “If Oliver sells all the stocks to Joshua, and then Joshua uses your situation to short you, wouldn’t it be challenging to regain control of the group?”
“Trust me, I know what to do.” Brandon led Abigail towards the main house, not wanting to discuss business matters further.
Seeing Brandon’s determined gaze, Abigail knew he had his plans and didn’t ask more, allowing him to lead her.
In July, the manor was in full bloom, mingled with the sweet scent of green fruits, and the faint aroma of herbs, making the entire estate full of vitality and without a hint of summer heat.
Among the blossoms, the sound of children’s laughter added a lively atmosphere to the luxurious garden.
Abigail looked towards the laughter and saw Teddy and Tate playing in the flower garden, even Clara Smith was there. Though too far to see Clara Smith’s expression, Abigail sensed her tranquility, a stark contrast from her demeanor in Durin.
Brandon followed Abigail’s gaze and raised an eyebrow. “Do you like her?”
“Can’t say it’s straightforward. It’s complicated, but overall, not bad.” Abigail shrugged. She never expected, whether in her past or present life, to have any mother-daughter fate, yet now found herself living with Clara Smith.
And this morning, despite the polite distance between her and Clara, Clara’s protective attitude made her feel warm.
Maybe… she thought that maybe one day she and Clara could get along like a typical mother and daughter.
Turning to look at Brandon, who held her hand, Abigail said, “Thank you, Brandon.”
No one but Brandon could bring her grandfather and Clara to live at the manor.
Brandon didn’t bother with modesty. “How do you plan to thank me?”
Abigail rolled her eyes. “I just plan to say thank you.”
Brandon, speechless.
He taught the little plump boy too well!
“Let’s not talk about this. I have a question for you. Do you know Hayden Bell?” Abigail wanted to ask her grandfather this morning but held back considering Clara’s emotions.
Brandon paused. “Why do you suddenly ask about him?”
“Your mom mentioned him today.” Her “your mom” carried a deliberate nuance.
Brandon felt awkward. “Why would she bring him up, uh…”
“He’s your uncle and my biological father, right?” Abigail directly confronted him, seeing his hesitation.
Brandon didn’t expect Eva Bell to mention Hayden suddenly, nor Abigail’s quick reaction. He took a deep breath, exhaled, and nodded. “Yes.”
Abigail had already guessed it, but Brandon’s confirmation still left her feeling strange. Following him silently, just before entering the living room, she suddenly said, “If I hadn’t been reborn, we’d be cousins.”
This abrupt statement startled Brandon, who stumbled and then looked at Abigail in surprise. “What’s in that little head of yours?”
“Don’t touch me tonight. I don’t want any confusion, you understand.” Abigail said and went straight upstairs.
Brandon was left standing, puzzled about what he had just heard.
