Chapter 49: A Giant Red-Scaled Snake

After a morning of trekking, Lin Chao and girls had arrived at a highway without a hiccup. They did not meet a single large-sized monster during the journey, only five or six special zombies and some normal mutated beasts.

Lin Chao hopped onto the top of a worn-down car, overlooking the road in front of them. Many cars laid strewn and congested on the road. Several huge trucks were turned over, bloodied zombies roamed near the wheels. These zombies had eaten humans, resulting in a higher rate of evolution compared to their natural state.

The highway extended to the horizon like a slithering black snake. Where the sky met the earth, layers of cloud blanketed the sky, shadowing the weak sunlight of winter. The brittle wintry wind blew through the air.

Lin Chao retracted his gaze and retrieved some food from his alternate dimension, handing it to Lin Shiyu and Fan Xiangyu and telling them, “We’ll continue after eating.”

He had already explained to both girls what the alternate dimension space was; at the beginning they were incredibly amazed, but now they had already gotten used to it.

Lin Chao was munching on a pack of instant noodles when he suddenly looked to the street behind the highway. A minute later, a thin figure appeared. Staggering and wheezing, it was Ye Fei.

“She’s still here?” Fan Xiangyu was shocked, not expecting the woman to be so persistent.

When Ye Fei saw Lin Chao and the girls sitting on the car by the highway, she was overjoyed. Pushing herself to speed up towards the trio, she was exhausted to the point of not being able to lift a finger when she reached them, drenched in sweat like she was pulled out of water and panting heavily.

Lin Shiyu passed her a bottle of water hurriedly. “You must be totally worn out. Sit down and have a rest.”

Clutching the bottle, Ye Fei thanked her before making a few gulps, nearly choking herself. When she had satisfied her quench, she breathed tensely and smiled at Lin Chao. “Take me along, I won’t hold you back.”

Lin Chao turned away in disregard.

Ye Fei could only look pleadingly at Fan Xiangyu, hoping that she could help persuade him. The latter could only shrug to indicate her helplessness, in belief that she would not have ended up like this if she had the right to speak.

Ye Fei could only turn her silent plea to Lin Shiyu.

Lin Shiyu felt a little remorse, seeing that she was soaked from chasing after them, she asked, “Lil Chao, we really can’t take her along?”

Lin Chao turned back to glance at her sister before shifting his gaze to Ye Fei and replied after a moment of silence, “You can join us but…”

Boom!

A bang came out of the blue from afar, prompting Lin Chao to stand up abruptly like an ape gazing towards the faraway. A small red dot could be seen rapidly approaching from the opposite end of the highway. When it was about twenty miles away, Lin Chao managed to catch what it was.

It was a giant red-scaled snake that reached thirty meters in length. It sped along the highway, knocking off cars in its way off of the bridge with incredible force. Zombies in its track howled and pounced in ecstasy upon the intense odor of bloodstains on the snake..

In spite of it, this giant red-scaled snake was unusually slippery and the zombies failed to grab onto it, swiftly shaken off.

“Hide, quick,” Lin Chao told Lin Shiyu instantly with a change of expression.

Lin Shiyu and Fan Xiangyu were both frightened having seen the approaching serpent as well. Its exaggerated size was already a warning that this mutated ophidian would be tough to tackle. Knowing that lingering would not help and could possibly cause trouble instead, Lin Shiyu swiftly carried Ye Fei and ran toward the alley behind the street.

Ye Fei wore a blank look, at a loss about what was happening.

When they left, the giant red-scaled snake had already arrived. Hissing while erecting its upper body, towering above Lin Chao it looked down at him. Its wine-colored vertical-pupil eyes looked like two balls of fire as they reflected similarity to Lin Chao’s eyes.

Lin Chao gave a serious gaze as the skin on his back wiggled, a pair of black dragon wings broke out, tearing his clothes. They spread like an eagle ready to take flight. The modified black feathers of the wings were akin to sharp blades, making metallic clang when they came into contact with each other.

Flying up, Lin Chao maintained a ceaseless stare with the giant red-scaled serpent.

Roar!

The snake’s jaws were opened wide, its fangs were snow-white with venom dripping from the sacs. It was the first to attack, its head shooting towards Lin Chao who moved as swift as lightning!

Lin Chao’s twenty times enhanced reflex and dynamic vision could barely catch the head’s movement. Fortunately, the Modified Dragon Wings pulled him up a little higher the moment a reaction flashed in his head, barely saving him from the advance.

Alarmed, Lin Chao did not expect the serpent to be so terrifying. Its physique could have reached thirty times that of a human. If he did not have his wings and had to fight on land, he might not be able to avoid the snake’s attack even if he activated Speed Enhancement in addition to having to watch out for its tail.

Hiss! Hiss!

The giant red-scaled snake seemed to be angered when its first lunge was in vain. It hissed at Lin Chao who was higher up in the air and made a second attempt.

Lin Chao avoided it once more, retreating back with his Modified Dragon Wings

Soon, he was forced to the back of the and was still evading and dodging the reptile’s attacks. Each time the snake made a futile leap, its wrath heightened a little and it continued trying.

Lin Chao hid in an alley.

There was a meandering zombie in the alley, growling in advance when it smelled Lin Chao and the giant red-scaled snake.

Plop!

The giant red-scaled snake bounded with a roar, crushing the zombie directly.

Lin Chao finally stopped. His eyes gleamed. This was the best battle geography nearby; he could do nothing based on the serpent’s size in an open battlefield.

“Goldenized!”

Lin Chao maneuvered one tenth of the Golden stream within his body into his eyes, turning them golden, while the rest of the stream traveled to his hands, giving them a gleam of golden luster from his wrists to his fingertips.

Taking in a deep breath, he shot out flapping his Modified Dragon Wings.

Kill!

An onyx glow flickered. The dragon wings diving his body down from the high altitude like a black gale, while the golden shimmer on his hands created a twinkling trail.

Bam!

Lin Chao’s golden fist violently met the upper jaw of the giant red-scaled snake. A golden ray seemed to erupt from the blow as if the gigantic serpent was hit by a missile and fell back into the wall behind it.

As the tiled cement wall was fractured and the reinforcing steel in the cement was broken, the majority of the snake’s head was stuck inside the rubble.

Blood ignited as he felt the potency of the golden fist, Lin Chao looked up to see that the giant red-scaled snake did not die but its upper jaw was slightly deformed, indented with the mark of a fist!

Roar!

The serpent hissed and snarled in rage, the pain stirring up its bestiality. RIpping its head from the wall it leaped toward Lin Chao in berserk.

Swiftly side-stepping to avoid its counterattack, Lin Chao’s Goldenized vision enabled him to see the reptile’s movement easily. In addition to the supersonic speed of the A Tier Modified Dragon Wings, the snake’s rapid movement was slowed down incredibly by his eyes.

After several evasions of the giant red-scaled snake’s advances, Lin Chao flapped his wings higher and towered over the serpent as he looked at it like the devil with his raven wings beating. Manipulating the Golden stream from his left hand all to his right, turning his entire right arm Goldenized instantly!

Gripping his fist, Lin Chao leaned forward, soaring down like a hunting eagle.
