Chapter 19: Nothing to Say When They Meet

Shannon dragged her feet into the restaurant. Social events were terribly annoying, but as the founder of her law firm, it was inappropriate for her to skip a meeting, especially with a company as big as LG.

“Come, Miss Casey is so young and capable, let’s have a toast. To our company’s victory!” Shannon was made to drink the moment she sat down.

She picked up her glass and downed it in one gulp. She couldn’t hold her drink in the past, but over the past few years, she had actually learned to drink a little.

“Come on, Miss Casey. One more…”

After a few consecutive drinks, Shannon quietly excused herself and went to the washroom.

She retrieved the hangover medicine from her bag, as she stood outside the door with a worried expression on her face.

Shannon had delicate features, but she didn’t like to apply makeup. She exuded a cold aura standing where she was.

“Casey, I heard that you’ve just returned to New Jersey. Look at you, you’re so young and beautiful, so why are you working so hard? Why don’t you be my woman? You can have as much money as you want!” A greasy man approached Shannon, his words full of contempt for women.

Karl was the head of LG’s branding department. Back in the private room, she was already uncomfortable with his eyes sweeping up and down her body. She didn’t expect him to follow her out, what an annoying man!

“Karl, you’re the the head of LG’s branding department, and I’m your lawyer. If word gets out, it’s a breach of industry practices. Also, if you want to win the lawsuit, stay away from me. We can’t have any form of relationship.” Shannon rejected the person in front of her coldly.

She turned around and prepared to walk around him to leave. She felt disgusted looking at such a person for another second!

“Sir, don’t be angry. Let’s…”

A familiar voice reached her ears. Where had she heard this voice before?

Shannon stopped in her tracks. Why did this voice sound so familiar to her? She seemed to have heard it somewhere before. Was this… Jake’s voice?

A figure suddenly appeared before her eyes. Max was walking towards her. She felt as though she was frozen in place, and even her blood chilled.

After such a long time, he still had such a fatalistic appeal to her!

“What’s wrong, beautiful? Have you thought it through? I knew it. Why would you need to work so hard? Of course it’s for the sake of money!” Karl’s voice sounded again.

His pudgy hands were already wrapped around her waist. If it was in the past, she would definitely slap him.

However, the man who had just appeared in front of her made her change her mind.

“Karl, you’re right. The most important thing for a woman is to be with the right person. So long as the price is right, you can do whatever you want.” Shannon looked at Karl with a seductive smile.

Max frowned when he heard that familiar voice. His legs suddenly froze. She was back? The person he saw at the airport that day was really her.

He looked at the woman, and the scene that was unfolding before him made his thin lips curl into a cold smile. He thought that she was different from other women, but from the looks of it, they were all the same!

“Sir, isn’t this Miss Zanders? That man is really bold, I…”

“Stop right there.” Jake saw that Shannon was being pestered by a man and wanted to help her, but Max stopped him.

He walked towards her with a dark and ominous gaze. It seemed like she had been leading a comfortable life these few years. She was with a man at the airport and now, she was in the arms of another one.

Karl was about to answer Shannon’s question when he spotted Max.

“Isn’t this President Wenley? President Wenley, are you here to check in on us?”

As a partner, he naturally had to greet Max.

Max’s indifferent gaze fell upon Shannon. When their eyes met, the atmosphere immediately became tense.

“Oh, this is Casey, the new elite lawyer that we hired!” Karl introduced Shannon to Max with a flattering smile.

Shannon held Karl’s arm with a wide smile on her lips, but her heart felt like it was being stabbed.

Max stared fixedly at Shannon. It was that same pair of eagle-like eyes which had once infatuated her.

But now, she only wanted to escape.

“Karl, let’s go. I’m feeling a little cold.” Shannon didn’t say a single word to Max. She simply glanced at him coldly before tugging Karl’s arm.

Karl immediately laughed and bade farewell to Max, then left with Shannon. All this time, Max didn’t say a word to Karl, but his gaze terrified Karl.

“Karl, get in the car. Let’s find somewhere nice.” Shannon opened the car door and enticed Karl with a smile.

This scene was playing out before Max and Jake when they came out of the restaurant. His limo was parked not far away from her.

Shannon immediately started the car and left. She gripped the steering wheel so tightly that her knuckles had turned white, and her body was trembling uncontrollably.

The more she tried to calm herself, the more she couldn’t.

“Sir, should we chase after them? Or should I get someone to investigate?” Jake asked carefully in Max’s car.

Max sat in the back seat, his dark eyes as deep as an abyss. Chase after her? What did he want her for?

“Go to the office!” Max barked his orders to the chauffeur then closed his eyes.

The image of Shannon in the restaurant kept on replaying in his mind. Her professional attire made her look extremely capable, but he felt that she was not as capable as she looked.

She had actually gotten together with such a greasy man. How disgusting!

“F*ck!” Max suddenly opened his eyes and smashed the laptop beside him.

Damn it! He was still thinking about her!

“Sir, are you alright?” Jake had never seen him like this before, so he didn’t know how to react.

Max was extremely vexed. He undid his tie and tossed it to the side.

Shannon brought Karl to her neighborhood and alighted from the car and she flagged a taxi down for him.

“Karl, stop following me.” Shannon turned around to warn him when she saw that he was following her.

Karl was shocked. What was going on? Why did she change her mind again?

“Don’t tell me that you are interested in President Wenley after meeting him? Ha! Let me tell you, he doesn’t fancy women like you! You’d be happier staying with me,” Karl said as he slung his arm around her shoulders.

Shannon pushed him away and walked towards her apartment, but Karl continued to follow her.

However, she was not afraid at all. She opened the door and even let him in.

“Come on, beautiful, I won’t disappoint you. Give me a kiss.” Karl hugged Shannon the moment he entered the apartment.

She immediately felt extremely disgusted and pushed him away with both hands, putting distance between them.

But by then, his fat hands were already on her hips..
