Chapter 32: A Busy Life

Pete looked puzzled. If they weren’t together, why would she let that man stay the night?

“You aren’t going to take revenge, are you? I know Max Wenley. He’s not someone to be trifled with. Don’t mess around.” Pete was afraid that Shannon would get hurt again.

Shannon walked into the elevator with a helpless smile.

“Am I that stupid? Stop poking into my affairs. You should be worrying about the divorce case that was sent to us a few days ago.” Shannon only wanted to immerse herself in her work now.

She already knew that this wasn’t an easy lawsuit.

“Please arrange an appointment with Mr. Whitt.” Shannon ordered Gina immediately when she reached the office.

Pete looked at her in a daze. Why was she acting like nothing had happened?

Shannon was actually feeling very uneasy, but she had no choice. She had to calm herself down.

She sat down in front of her computer and devoted herself to her work.

“President Zanders, Mr. Whitt is here.” Gina’s knocking interrupted her thoughts.

She stood up and walked towards the meeting room. Gerald Whitt was already waiting for her inside.

“Let me explain my situation. My current wife is the woman I cheated with in my previous marriage. I thought she was the love of my life, but unexpectedly, she had been transferring my assets away since she married me. I want to divorce her and regain my assets.” Gerald anxiously told Shannon about his predicament.

Shannon listened carefully. If there wasn’t a clear listing of assets prior to the marriage, the issue would be tricky.

“Do you have a prenuptial agreement?” A glint of sharpness flashed across Shannon’s eyes.

When Gerald heard this, he slammed the table in regret!

“If you didn’t, legally you can only pursue your pre-marital assets. You have to be mentally prepared that you might not be able to regain the properties and companies that you established post-marriage.” Shannon wasn’t like other lawyers; she chose to present all possibilities from the beginning.

After hearing Shannon’s words, Gerald’s face fell, and his expression was filled with regret.

“But don’t worry about it. We can speak to the other party’s lawyer first, and find out what their demands are.” Shannon proposed the first course of action.

However, despite Gina’s attempts to contact the other party, the latter was unwilling to meet with Shannon.

They said that they wanted to go through the legal route.

Shannon was a little confused by this reaction. This was the first time she had met someone who looked forward to a lawsuit, even without a prior meeting.

What she didn’t know was that Gerald’s current wife was good friends with Janice.

When Janice found out in the morning that Max had spent the night in Shannon’s house, she was even more furious. They’d spent the night together, especially after she’d drugged his food.

She didn’t need to think to know what had happened. Hence, she personally pulled some strings, which resulted in Gerald hiring Shannon.

She’d also promised her good friend that she would win the case.

She wanted to make Shannon lose her second lawsuit, and cut off the possibility of her winning any cases after this. It was only through this method that Shannon would obediently get out of this city.

Inside the law firm.

“Let’s go to Mr. Whitt’s company to collect some information and check his assets.” Shannon asked Pete to accompany her to Gerald’s company.

When she arrived at the Whitt Corporation, she realized that it was a chaotic scene.

“Gerald! You b*stard! I agreed to our divorce when you asked for it, but this is the company that we’d worked so hard to build. Why are you giving it to this little vixen?” Gerald’s ex-wife sat on the ground, bawling and cursing Gerald.

When Shannon saw this scene, she thought of the time when she got divorced. Her heart couldn’t help but ache.

“Ma’am, you don’t have to do this. Don’t worry, she won’t be able to take away a single share of this company.” Shannon helped Gerald’s ex-wife up.

Gerald quickly closed the door to the meeting room. If he had known that this would happen, he would have never married that woman!

“The other party doesn’t want to meet us, so we can only go through the judicial process now. However, your company and assets might be temporarily frozen.” Shannon passed the defense plan to Gerald, and Pete went to calculate Gerald’s assets.

For the entire afternoon, Shannon was busy at the Whitt Corporation.

“We have already established that there’ll be some trouble regaining your stocks. There’ll also definitely be some losses with regard to the property and companies that you started after your second marriage. However, we have an advantage, so the chances of winning are high.” Shannon was confident after grasping the situation.

It was because Gerald had only married this third party for a short period of time, so they didn’t have that many shared assets.

Shannon was busy with Gerald’s case, so apart from Pete and the people related to the case, she didn’t meet any other men.

Max knew that she had been busy recently, and he was very satisfied that she didn’t meet any random people. He felt that she was still very obedient.

In the car, the radio was reporting on the divorce case that Shannon had recently taken on. Gerald had built his business from scratch, and had received a lot of attention in the industry.

“President, I heard that Miss Zanders has been involved in a divorce case recently. Should I order our men to help her?” Jake asked tentatively as he drove.

Max looked out of the car window. She was a lawyer who graduated from a famous law school overseas, so she could still complete this divorce case without his help.

“There’s no need. Continue driving.” Max’s voice was cold.

Although he said he didn’t need to, he suddenly felt like he wanted to see her. It had been a few days since he last saw her.

“President, where are we going now? Is it to Janice’s house?” Jake’s voice was weak; it was as though he knew that Max didn’t want to see Janice.

Max played with his phone, as a dark glint surfaced in his eyes.

Janice’s smile and expression when she passed him his food that night flashed through his mind.

He had kept her by his side for such a long time because she was obedient. But now, this woman actually dared to scheme against him. It seemed like he needed to give her a warning.

“No, let’s go back to Azure Harbor.” Max’s voice was cold.

Night fell and neon lights flashed on the streets.

Inside the mansion, Janice sat alone on the sofa, her brows furrowed with worry.

It had been a few days since he left that night, and she hadn’t seen him since. She had also hired an investigator, and found out that Shannon hadn’t met him again either.

But he wasn’t willing to come here, nor did he want to touch her.

She didn’t know what Max was thinking. If he liked Shannon, he could look for her now.

The more Janice thought about it, the more depressed she felt. She got up and drove to Shannon’s neighborhood.

She already knew where Shannon was staying. She wanted to negotiate with her.

Shannon was sitting in her study at home. Her computer and table were filled with information about Gerald’s case..
