Chapter 836: Chapter 836: Chang’an, Chang’an! (Part 1)

In the dim underground, a long caravan struggled to make its way on the Holy Ancestor’s Way.

This caravan comprised a very diverse group of people, including common Traveling Merchants, Hunters, Martial Artists, civilians, and scholars, as well as many ragged and impoverished refugees.

Zhong Lei took a deep breath and carried his daughter over from his wife’s arms.

What met them instead was the gleaming blade of swords!

He saw, a few hundred steps ahead, troops of armored samurai sweeping through, crushing the bandits blocking Holy Ancestor’s Way and grinding the ones in their path to dust.

He saw a bandit leader scream and leap high, only to be turned into a porcupine by dozens of long spears flying his way.

Screams of pain, woeful cries, pleas for mercy…

In a mere half-portion of tea time, not a single standing bandit could be seen on Holy Ancestor’s Way.

And those samurai, who descended like divine warriors, quickly reached Zhong Lei’s team as they stepped over the heaps of corpses and puddles of blood.

The people around Zhong Lei, terrified, scattered back, each retreating and shrinking into themselves like quails.

These armored samurai killed bandits as easily as slaughtering chickens; killing them would be even simpler.

But Zhong Lei was undoubtedly much braver, and he didn’t believe that these well-equipped, well-trained warriors would lay hands on poor folks like themselves.

So, gathering his courage, he stepped forward and bowed, saying, “Your lordships’ grace in saving our lives, I shall never forget!”

The armored warriors stopped, and one of them lifted his silver-gray visor, asking in a deep voice, “Where have you come from, and where are you going?”

The other warriors followed suit, lifting their visors.

Zhong Lei was astonished to discover that these powerful and ruthless warriors were all teenagers, each face still carrying a hint of youthful innocence.

Zhong Lei was stunned for a moment before he hurriedly responded, “Reporting to your lordship, I, I am fleeing disaster and heading to Taiwu City.”

The other party smiled upon hearing this and said, “Taiwu City? You might as well come to our Chang’an City!”
