In recent years, the entertainment industry has experienced a wave of enthusiasm for directing films. Whether novelists, TV hosts, or actors, everyone flocked to make movies. In reality, very few were actually doing the directing; most were just using the title to make money. If the film received critical acclaim or did well at the box office, they would happily proceed to make a second film or start a new project. If the film was critically panned, they would take the money and run, never touching directing again. As long as they didn’t deceive again, audiences were generally forgiving and wouldn’t fuss over it too much.

But Bo Yan was different. He had clear artistic expression and his own perspective. He didn’t want to lose his pursuit just for a quick buck.

Although a good director must be a good actor–because they need to understand and control the play, so acting in it themselves isn’t a bad idea–a good actor is not necessarily a good director. There are many obstacles to overcome in between. Bo Yan was cautious in his approach. Although he would prefer to direct, act, and write the screenplay himself, it’s very likely that his first film won’t be based on his original script. Instead, it would be one that he found appealing enough to want to bring to the screen. Once he was familiar with and had mastered the process, he would then express his own ideas through his own scripts.

There’s no helping it, human energy is finite. Even if he has time to write a screenplay now, he won’t be able to polish it immediately. If he can’t do a good job with the script, he’d rather shelve it.

However, this left Xia Siyu as the only one with nothing to do.

She was indeed a bit bored, especially now during her period, with many things she couldn’t do, her energy was left with no outlet all day. She had once thought about it: as an artist, life is so busy, but once she reached thirty-five or forty, having earned enough money for a lifetime, she would boldly retire. She would move to a place like Sicily, buy a small yard–preferably one with a view of the sea.

Then she could lie down every day, tend to flowers, fish, and when the weather was nice, move the rattan chair outside and sunbathe in it for the whole day.

She would also get a dog and, every evening, take it for a walk. During her leisure time, she’d read books at home, or watch plays. Originally, she hadn’t thought about starting a family. But now, having gotten together with Bo Yan, he became part of her plans. Wouldn’t an unabashedly cozy world of just the two of them be perfect?

If they were to continue, they would have a child. Raising a child would be exhausting enough, likely consuming a large portion of her energy.

Wouldn’t that be beautiful?

If Bo Yan had his own work, it would be traditional: the man works outside, the woman takes care of the household. Since she wasn’t short of money, it would be like when her parents took care of her in the past.

But now, she was the only one with nothing to do, bored to the point of almost tearing the house down.

She was different from her mother; her mother was actually more introverted. Although she left the industry due to a scandal, she relished the simple life afterwards. The Xia Family looked down on her, she endured. Xia Youbiao had to compromise to maintain peace at home for the sake of his ex-wife’s two children, and she endured. But while her mother could endure, she could not. If Bo Yan dares wrong her, she would respond with an immediate roundhouse kick and head for the civil affairs bureau the next day.

Maybe being an artist wasn’t originally her pursuit, but now it was her job, and it had become her solace. At least she wouldn’t be stuck at home.

Just as she was feeling bored, a phone call suddenly came through.
