Actual Fairytale – Picking up a Mermaid! (13)
He had spent all of his time in the lab, any time he wasn’t looking for a way to cure himself, he would be afraid of suddenly dying the next day.
Marriage and children were completely outside of his considerations.
If he couldn’t cure himself, then he could live to forty at most, so then what would be the point of marrying or having children?
His wife would slowly wither away out of heartbreak when he died, and his child would inherit his disease. It would just be another cycle.
So Shen Shao couldn’t determine how he felt toward Jun Li, and simply thought of Jun Li as his cure and only hope.
Shen Shao got lost in his own mind as he worked. When he felt tired, he would often sit at his desk and space out.
Shen Shao had a handsome face. He wasn’t out in the sun often, so his skin was very pale. With his glasses, he seemed like a nerd.
When he just sat there in thought, he didn’t seem like some rich young master or a researcher, but rather a melancholy poet.
This kind of man was naturally attractive.
Lu Shijin knocked on Shen Shao’s office door and interrupted his thoughts.
Shen Shao called “Come in,” and was a bit surprised when he saw Lu Shijin, “Why are you here?”
Lu Shijin only took a step inside. “You don’t want me here? Then I’ll leave.”
Shen Shao smiled and waved Lu Shijin in. “Of course I welcome you, I’m just curious why, since it’s the first time you came here without prior notice.”
“I’m here with some good news, do you want to hear?” Lu Shijin swaggered over and sat across from Shen Shao.
Shen Shao adjusted his glasses, calmly asking, “What kind of news?”
“I found a person who might be able to cure you!” Lu Shijin said in a mysterious low voice.
Shen Shao’s expression stiffened, looking at Lu Shijin with disbelief, “What did you say?”
“I said.” Lu Shijin strengthened his tone, “I found someone who might be able to cure you!”
Shen Shao hesitated for half a second, then smiled like nothing happened, “Did you meet some scammer? I’ve spent so many years on this to no avail, how could some random person you found cure me?”
Lu Shijin said sternly, “He’s a real master, not a scammer! It took a long time for me to find him, and I’ve confirmed that he really has cured a bunch of incurable diseases! Just take a look, what if he does do it? Even if he can’t, it’s not even detrimental to you.”
“Don’t be so naive, I know my situation. No modern technology can cure me.” Shen Shao took off his glasses and put it on the desk, rubbing his eyebrows, “Shijin, I know you mean well, but I’ve been very busy lately, don’t add trouble.”
“I knew you wouldn’t believe me. Here, I sent you the master’s information. The choice is yours.” Lu Shijin sent the files over via his personal terminal, and left Shen Shao’s office with an unhappy expression.
“Why didn’t you keep persuading him? What if he doesn’t believe you at all and doesn’t even look at all those files?” 711 asked curiously.
“He will.” Lu Shijin smirked confidently. “Drowning people wouldn’t even let go over a blade of grass, this is the same concept. Shen Shao can’t be sure that merpeople blood is helpful for him, so he wouldn’t let go of any opportunity that could cure him.”
711 asked with worry, “Are you sure you want to expose Shen Shao? Aren’t you worried about your task?”
“No, the most urgent thing is to take that thing from my abdomen. Then,” Lu Shijin gritted his teeth, his gaze sharpening. “I’ll take my revenge.”
Lu Shijin sent everything to Shen Shao’s email.
Shen Shao opened his email to see an unread email from Lu Shijin. He was originally going to directly put it into trash, but he hesitated.
Shen Shao wasn’t someone who believed in fate. It was clear from his attempts to cure himself that he believed humanity to be in charge of their own actions.
Even if there was only a 0.00001% of a cure, he wouldn’t let it go.
So after ten seconds, Shen Shao opened the email and read through the documents.
According to the abstract, he was a master of Chinese medicine, specializing in acupuncture. He had cured many diseases using this method before.
In this era, with such advanced medical technology, most diseases could be cured by machines. The kind of old-fashioned diagnosis by observation has become outdated, so Shen Shao had never even considered it.
Shen Shao was careful and searched up all the diseases that the master had cured, and was greatly surprised by the result.
Those illnesses actually existed, and were all cured?
Shen Shao’s jaw dropped from all the information, wondering if the doctor could actually be so skilled.
In reality, there was no such master. Everything Shen Shao saw had been tampered with by 711.
Lu Shijin left the lab and got in the car. Jun Yu was there waiting for him.
“Did he see?” Jun Yu asked.
Lu Shijin shook his head. “Don’t know.”
Jun Yu said, “Then you failed.”
Lu Shijin wagged his finger. “That might not be the case.”
Jun Yu asked with suspicion, “If he doesn’t even look, how can your plan proceed?”
Lu Shijin was unworried. “I don’t know if he’s looked at it yet, but I think he will look at it, wanna bet?”
“Bet what?”
Lu Shijin smiled, “If I win, then you have to take the thing in me out.”
Jun Yu stared at him for a couple seconds, then turned away expressionlessly. “No.”
“Damn, why are you like this?” Lu Shijin pounded the steering wheel. “Why did you even put your baby in my stomach? If you wanted to control me, couldn’t you use another method? Why this way in particular? I don’t have a premarital pregnancy, but rather a pre-coital pregnancy!!”
Jun Yu didn’t respond and noticed a blinking notification on his wrist. “Quiet, there’s an unknown number.”
Lu Shijin saw it as well and stopped talking, motioning for Jun Yu to pick up.
Jun Yu first cleared his throat, then answered in a low voice, “Hello? Who is this?”
The other side had a bit of hesitation before asking, “Hello, are you Master Yu?”
