Chapter 5 – Clayo Asser’s Fleeting Life (1)
That same morning, a teacher named Ryuba came to supervise over him together with a doctor. Jeongjin, who had just woke up, played the amnesia card and divulged it was only his name he remembered.
The doctor with a long moustache put an antique-looking stethoscope over Jeongjin’s chest and gently examined his body. Naturally, there was nothing abnormal with his state. In the end, the doctor diagnosed him to be in a healthy condition and that the shock from the river incident must be the cause for memory loss.
He was quite anxious that trouble would happen following their visit. But he was glad, it surprisingly went smooth without a hitch. He enjoyed their company and even conversed with Ryuba.
The middle-aged woman had a gentle personality and felt sorry for Clayo’s accident. She soothed the boy tenderly on the back and even asked him several times how he lost his footing on the river.
Upon hearing the same question thrown at him thrice, Jeonjin was able to understand something.
This person must have a keen sense of what was happening.
He, too, had the feeling that Clayo Asser perhaps attempted suicide. But his efforts had unfortunately been successful, else it wouldn’t be Kim Jeongjin inside Clayo’s body now.
“I’ve contacted Baron Asser, who is currently working in Colpos, but I’ve yet to receive a reply,” Ryuba brought him out from his reverie.
“I see.”
“Don’t worry too much. You should know your father must be busy nowadays due to the increasing demand for his business. Your father is a great businessman and is Albion’s best. He needs to focus on many important things. He has never thought of neglecting you. You know that, right?”
“Yes, of course, ma’am.”
Although still a bit drowsy, Jeongjin’s ears flashed with this vital piece of information.
In the novel, it was written that Baron Asser was one of the best entrepreneurs in the kingdom of Albion. His character profile described him as an immensely rich. Although he was a low-ranking noble, he was far from a commoner.
This is a big hit.
Perhaps this kid was from a prominent family who enrolled in this academy with wealth and talents to show.
His expression minutely hardened, and Ryuba was thought he was feeling gloomy.
Ryuba hurriedly added, “But your father’s secretary told me that your allowance had already been remitted for this week. You should visit the bank and check it out.”
It’s logical to believe his father has sent him money after news of his attempt.
If Jeongjin had known Baron Asser personally, maybe he would have responded favorably.
It must be painful for you, Clayo Asser.
He was similar to the numerous supporting characters that disappeared without a name, no story, and comfort given akin to the main character.
Even if I had disappeared from the real world, no one would know, and neither be sad for me… just like how this Clayo had passed away.
Paradoxical as it may, he—a person from the real world, was no less insignificant compared to a character from a book.
Jeongjin shook off his miserable thoughts.
I should think more level headedly. I am Clayo Asser now. Despite being an abandoned child of a wealthy home, this is better than having nothing at all.
Clayo’s father must be sipping on his expensive wine, while his son stared down the broad, magnificent view from their mansion amid the night sky as he thought, ‘Why doesn’t my father love me?’
But of course, such thoughts were futile… At the very least, he should focus on the present and check his bank account.
“All right, you can roam around the campus when you feel better. I told your roommate, Nevo, to visit you tomorrow or the day after. You have already been sick for five days, so take a good rest. In the meantime, I’ll take have your meals delivered from the restaurant for you.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
“Oh, Clayo, I’m so glad! You looked directly in my eyes and responded properly this time.”
As Ryuba walked out of the room, Clayo almost bit off his tongue after hearing what she had said.
What kind of miserable life did this kid live that he can’t even look a teacher, who is kind to him, in the eye?
***
He kept on sleeping as if he had never had a proper sleep in ten years. Especially when all of his monthly rentals and unpaid loans have been taken care of. It naturally freed him from his former worries…
It was almost midday when he woke up the next day.
Clayo just kept on snoozing until a servant arrived to provide him with his meal and change his beddings.
He felt embarrassed, especially when someone had to do things for him. He waited until the servant was done cleaning and out of the room before he even touched his late breakfast.
It was comfortable. It was almost perfect. It was a luxury Jeongjin had never tasted before.
Just how marvelous can this school be? It’s even better than a hotel.
When he was in the real world, he used to hear the words ‘I want to die.’ Nevertheless, the Korean staffs were right when they said that the phrase only implies, ‘I just want to live leisurely without working.’
But from what he has read in the novel, there was only one problem a student would tackle in the future: a compulsory military service after graduation.
Of course, this problem was easy to solve. All Jeongjin had to do is refrain from graduating.
It’s already challenging to perform excellently in school—why must I make things complicated?
With the last green grape left from his meal, Clayo exited the room, leaving behind a tray of empty dishes in the bedroom.
