Chapter 30: I Really Like It

Andrew quickly realized that his question was inappropriate, and he hurriedly added, “Oh, it’s just that you seemed to be a little scared just now. I’m sure the issue with the werewolf has been bothering you.”

“I still can’t believe it.” I can’t believe I met a werewolf that night, and I can’t believe that Andrew really believes me.

“It’s indeed shocking. However, the legend of werewolves has been around for thousands of years, and there are many who claim to have seen werewolves. On the contrary, I feel that there must be some facts in there for these things to be circulated around.”

“Are you investigating this matter?”

It sounded like a perfunctory reply, but at the same time, that look in his eyes didn’t seem like it was perfunctory..

It was only then that I realized that his pupils were unusually black, making me feel that they were dark and mysterious.

For some reason, the atmosphere between us suddenly became awkward. I lowered my head and took a sip of tea. The tea tasted bland, as bland as water. It didn’t taste good and so I put it down again.

Andrew took the initiative to break the awkward silence. “Do you have any thoughts about this application?”

It was work mode now. “I’m just here to get it signed for Edwin,” I said quickly.

“Edwin?”

Seeing the puzzled look on his face, as if he didn’t know Edwin, I explained, “He’s the General Manager of the Hall Corporation, in charge of the liquor industry.”

“Oh, okay. I’m sorry, but I don’t know many people in the corporation. I have an idea for the Craftsman series’ product launch. I want to make it grand and invite all the VIP clients of the company to participate. Of course, the main purpose is to let those people know that I will also be there.”

I immediately understood what he meant. He wanted to use this press conference to officially make himself known to the world as the President of the Hall Corporation.

“Then Edwin is going to be flattered,” I said.

Andrew smiled. “I wonder if you’re interested?”

“Huh?”

“I know that you used to work in the marketing department. It should be easy to organize an event. I want you to organize this press conference.”

“Me?” I pointed at myself, unable to believe what I just heard.

“I want it to be grand. How about this, I’ll raise the budget by 20 million dollars.”

I wasn’t drinking any tea, but I nearly choked.

I’d organized events with million dollar budgets, but I’d never been involved in events with budgets of more than 10 million dollars. I was here to investigate Abraham’s disappearance, not to work hard for the Hall Corporation.

“I’m sorry, Mr President…”

“Andrew,” he said sincerely, moving a little closer to me. I could almost smell his body scent, faint, a little nutty.

The more I thought about it, the more it didn’t feel right, but the conversation had to go on. “I’m sorry, Andrew. I’m Edwin’s assistant. He’s in charge of this event. If I steal his show, I won’t be able to stay in the company.”

“You’re worried about this?”

“Of course.”

“If this event goes well, come over and be my assistant. I happen to lack an assistant. As for Edwin, if he’s unhappy about it, I can transfer him out of this place.”

“Your assistant?” My heart raced as Andrew and I stared at each other. My mind went blank for a moment.

I quickly looked away, my heart still racing and my whole body starting to heat up. It felt a little like when Abraham and I were getting ready for a hearty intercourse. We would hug each other and look at each other’s aroused expressions.

I quickly took a sip of my tea and took a long breath, suppressing my inexplicable feelings.

It must be because Andrew was so charismatic, making me feel attracted to him. It was the same type of attraction as when I saw models in a magazine. I had no other feelings. How could I have feelings for other men while I was searching for Abraham?

“I’m worried I’m not good enough.” I shirked the responsibility.

I thought that he would force me to seize this rare opportunity. After all, this was indeed a rare opportunity for everyone else.

However, Andre didn’t make use of his authority as President. He only said gently, “I’ve seen your resume. You’re outstanding. Of course, that wasn’t the main reason why I chose you. I feel that you’re a good fit for me.”

“Good fit?”

“Yes. I’ve watched all the events you’ve worked on before. I love them.” His upper body leaned against the table, the sun shining gently on him. He said the last three words softly, complementing this lazy afternoon. I somehow felt some power in his words, it was crazily pulling me.

That power kept telling me that it wasn’t because he liked the events that I organized, but rather, because he liked me.
