Chapter 24: From Planet Trash

It was very quiet in the forest.
Since this mimicry planet was designed especially for the examination, there were no animals living here. It was so eerily quiet that even a small move would be noticed a few metres away.
When she was certain that she was in a safe zone, Lan Jiao finally got the chance to do something about her burned skin.
Before the examination started, Lan Jiao could tell from the way that Dean Ferrero had appeared that every move of the participant would be under the supervision of the school directors.
So, when Lan Jiao was thinking about taking a dip in the spring water, she removed the things which she had with her, and placed them by the brook’s bank. She stepped into the water, fully clothed, allowing the water to get absorbed.
Her thick clothes became very heavy after being soaked in water. In this way, Lan Jiao was able to let her skin stay hydrated for a long time.
The cool water gradually reduced the pain caused by the burned skin, and she temporarily felt better.
She could do nothing else right now, due to the environmental constraints.
For her face, she needed to find aloe vera and use it as a mask.
Nature Food, such as fruits and grain, were extremely expensive at the moment, let alone aloe vera which was not a common plant!
Lan Jiao had no idea if aloe vera existed in this world.
With one step, she had leaped over time zones, going from the desert to a forest.
There was a special barrier between the two different mimicry environments. Before Lan Jiao stepped into the forest, she wasn’t able to notice even a single thing about this place.
And after she walked into the forest, the desert behind her disappeared like a mirage.
The air in the forest was damp and the temperature was not as low as the desert.
It was still hot here. But compared to the dry desert, it was hot and humid.
If Lan Jiao had not soaked in the spring, it would not have taken her long before she was weighed down by the moisture in the air, leading to stickiness all over the body.
As she felt the coolness covering her body, suddenly a large-sized screen appeared up in the air which every participant in the desert was able to see clearly.
Soon, Dean Ferrero’s image appeared once again in front of the participants.
A couple of minutes ago, Dean Ferrero had been sitting in the garden, leisurely eating breakfast when he received a call request from Jin Ling, one of the mentors for the examination.
Without hesitation, Ferrero approved of the mentor’s request.
Next second, Jin Ling’s figure was reflected in front of Dean Ferrero through the Light Head.
The telephone conversation through Light Head in this world was much more advanced than that in Lan Jiao’s world. A person’s whole figure was visible to the opposite side, making it appear more realistic.
“What is it?” Ferrero asked indifferently as he was cutting a piece of beefsteak from his plate carefully, without even looking up.
The thick and tough beef, together with chewy tendons plus the half-done texture had turned it into a terrible dish.
But Ferrero still insisted on tasting the food in front of him.
He did not care about texture. The reason why he ate beefstakes was because he wanted to set up a noble image of himself.
It was said that beefstakes had become popular among nobilities hundreds of centuries ago. In almost all countries, the etiquette of eating beefstakes was like an honor.
Those who did not know how to eat beefstakes would be looked down upon.
During the past centuries, many methods of food making were lost in history, only the etiquette of cooking and eating beefstakes remained.
So beefsteak had become a very popular dish among the entire Alliance. A Dean like him ate one meal of beefsteak a day just to show off his status.
“I am sorry to have interrupted you, Dean, but something has come up.” Jin Ling said in a serious tone.
“Someone has already passed the first section of desert before its set deadline. So we are proposing to start the desert test immediately.”
Hearing what Jin Ling said, Ferrero was so surprised that he ceased his actions.
He finally looked up at Jin Ling’s reflection as if trying to figure out whether Jin Ling was jesting, based on her expression.
Apparently, Jin Ling was not someone who liked joking around.
Her serious expression became the best answer to Dean Ferrero’s concern.
“Who did it?” Ferrero was curious.
“Was it a genius from one of the noble families, or some elite from the warband?” Ferrero asked.
Jin Ling shook her head. “Neither.”
This answer surprised Ferrero even more. He tried to change his tone by saying half-jokingly, “Could it have been my useless grandson, Fey?”
“Nope.” Jin Ling shook her head and continued. “She has no background or roots. She is not even one of the top ranking participants in the aspect of physical quality, body condition or spirit power. She is just a girl from Planet Trash.”
With a loud sound, Ferrero’s fork dropped. It fell down and landed upon the plate.
All this happened before he showed his reflection on the screen after just three days’ time. He was back in front of the participants.
Dean Ferrero’s appearance in the desert made every participant stop whatever they were doing.
Some people, who had just started a fierce fight, ceased their movement and looked up in admiration at the large figure of Dean Ferrero hanging up in the air.
Ferrero had a serious expression on his face, as if he was looking at a group of useless people.
He said with gritted teeth, “I am here to announce that the desert test starts with immediate effect. Everyone shall try to leave the desert within the next 24 hours. Those who fail will be eliminated!”
This was something that should not have been announced until the fifth day, and the duration of the challenge would have been at least three days. But because of what Lan Jiao did, they not only hastened up the test but also reduced the timeline of the test.
Despite the change, Ferrero did not think that he had put forward any harsh conditions.
He instructed the participants in the desert in a furious tone which held some personal emotions, after he finished the announcement. “I hope that the so-called geniuses and elites can work harder, so you would not be put into shadow by a girl from Planet Trash!”
Having said the words, Ferrero switched off the screen and disappeared from their sight.
