Chapter 325: Chapter 322: Bizarre

Kang Tuo: “…”

He watched the woman clumsily frame and entrap, thinking to himself, “The Emperor surely wouldn’t believe this, would he? How could he possibly have untoward intentions toward her?”

“Miss, I have a virtuous wife and three sons at home, with whom I share a deep bond. Please refrain from making baseless accusations.”

He was famously known throughout the palace as a devoted husband, even the Emperor knew about it and had scolded him for it: “A man of vigor must not cower before a woman!

There was no way he could have had untoward intentions toward her.

Unaware of his thoughts, Sang Yan negotiated with him: “I will refrain from making accusations, but you must tell me the truth about Emperor Da He.”

Kang Tuo sighed helplessly: “Miss, I am merely a Medical Officer, and know little about the affairs of Da He. Should I speak falsely, may I be torn from my wife and children.”

He took an oath on what he valued most in life and didn’t lie at all.

Upon hearing this, tears immediately fell from Sang Yan’s eyes.

She didn’t want to cry, but her emotions were unstable, and a slight provocation could turn her into a weeping mess.

Kang Tuo was a rough man, yet filled with tender sentiments, and he could not bear to see a woman weep, forcing him to change the topic: “Rest assured, miss, I will inquire about this matter for you shortly.”

Sang Yan hadn’t expected this turn of events, her tears quickly stopped: “Thank you, thank you.”

After examining her pulse, Kang Tuo withdrew his hand, spoke of her fetal condition: “Miss, your body is weak, and the fetus is not yet stable. You need to keep your spirits up and properly nurture the fetus.”

Sang Yan nodded: “I understand. Thank you.”

She was touched by Kang Tuo’s kindness– even in the distant, snow-covered Imperial City of Beiqi, there were kind-hearted people.

Like Kang Tuo.

Like Imperial Doctor Wu.

“Your Majesty–”

Suddenly, the voice of a Palace Attendant rang out.

Sang Yan was startled and looked over to see Qi Wuya in a golden imperial robe, covered by a black and gold cloak, walking in gracefully.

He was handsome, his eyes brimming with confidence, his aura unparalleled as befitting an Emperor.

“What brought the Imperial Physician here? Are you unwell?”

Qi Wuya had just come from the morning court session, having heard from someone watching the Fengyi Palace that Sang Yan was unwell and had called for the Imperial Physician, he came right over without even changing his clothes.

“No. I’m quite all right.”

Seeing him, a shadow fell over Sang Yan’s heart.

She really did not want to see him.

Yet, Qi Wuya always wanted to see her, and not just seeing her was enough. He immediately took off his cloak, handed it to the Palace Attendant, and then walked over and, before everyone, pulled her onto his lap.

Sang Yan was frightened by his actions, wanting to resist, only to feel a large hand cover her lower abdomen, calming her instantly.

Qi Wuya gently caressed her lower abdomen, as if feeling the life growing inside, his gaze then fell on Kang Tuo kneeling below: “How is your master? Tell Us.”

He hadn’t officially recognized Sang Yan yet, but his words implied it– she was the master of the entire Imperial Palace.

Upon hearing this, Kang Tuo hurriedly bowed his head, saying: “Your Majesty, the master is overly anxious and weak in both qi and blood, needing good care.”

Qi Wuya, hearing a familiar report, did not suspect anything and nodded: “Go and write a prescription.”

“Yes.”

Kang Tuo complied, picked up his medical box, and left.

Sang Yan watched him go, thinking about his promise to gather information for her, and felt a pang of anticipation for his return.

That expectant look was but a fleeting moment, yet caught by Qi Wuya.

Qi Wuya was almost impressed by his own sharpness–how had he noticed her particular interest in Kang Tuo?

Perhaps because she never really looked at anyone else in the palace.

That sense of world-weariness appeared absent when it came to Kang Tuo.

“Is he handsome?”

Qi Wuya half-joked, half-doubtful: Could it be that Sang Yan also liked those broad-shouldered, rugged-faced men? He heard his wife was also a beautiful Miss who had traveled miles to marry him, choosing him and no other.

Sang Yan, unaware of Qi Wuya’s bizarre thoughts, replied: “No. He just doesn’t seem like an Imperial Physician.”

She knew Qi Wuya was sharp-witted and discerning and didn’t dare say too much.

“The more you say, the more mistakes you make.”

Wuya, somewhat skeptical of her words, smiled and said, “Your eyes are sharp too. Kang Tuo wasn’t originally a medical officer. He had joined the army in his early years and was accidentally poisoned. To cure himself, he studied medicine on his own. Unexpectedly, he achieved some success and later devoted himself entirely to medicine.”

Sang Yan hadn’t expected Kang Tuo to have such a complicated past.

No wonder his physique was so robust and he still retained an aura of ruthlessness.

“You seem very interested in him.”

Wuya stared at her with intense eyes, his tone firm.

Hearing this, Sang Yan’s heart skipped a beat, but she tried her best to remain composed, “I’m interested in everyone except you.”

She was deliberately trying to provoke him, hoping to distract his thoughts.

Indeed, Wuya was distracted. His large hand gripped her chin, lifting it as he smiled coldly, “Yanyan, are you planning to make a mistake again?”

Sang Yan frowned, suppressing her irritation, “Wuya, as an Emperor, is that all you can do, threaten?”

Wuya didn’t argue but said with a serious and dangerous look, “Yanyan, threats are my last form of tenderness towards you.”

When he no longer threatened, it meant direct action.

Sang Yan could read between the lines and could only endure and change the subject, “Why are you here? An emperor surely isn’t this idle. Don’t indulge in pleasure and neglect political affairs.”

In fact, she wished he would become a negligent ruler, stirring up public outrage and inciting rebellion against him.

“I would like to indulge, but unfortunately, you are disappointing.”

Wuya looked at her stomach, once again detesting the child.

As if sensing his malice, Sang Yan felt nauseous again, “Ugh–Ugh–”

Wuya: “…”

He had a phobia of being vomited on and immediately let go of her and stepped away.

And as soon as he stepped back, Sang Yan’s urge to vomit subsided.

The situation suddenly became very awkward.

“Sang Yan, are you playing with me?”

He felt toyed with.

Sang Yan wasn’t playing him, but she faintly felt that the child inside her was.

Perhaps inheriting her loathing for Wuya, she felt unwell and nauseous whenever he came close.

“No, it’s not.”

She looked at him, shaking her head earnestly.

Wuya didn’t believe her, and with a frown, he moved forward to grab her.

Sang Yan didn’t move, letting him grab her, but the moment his hand touched her wrist, the urge to vomit arrived on cue, “Ugh–Ugh–”

She vomited on him again.

Wuya’s face darkened as he clenched his teeth, “Sang, Yan!”

Sang Yan pushed him forcefully and grabbed a spittoon by the bed.

It was something she had prepared after vomiting during her pregnancy the previous day.

“Ugh–”

She clutched the spittoon and heaved, but actually, nothing came out.

Wuya, seeing it clearly, also vaguely realized–this was all the doing of that child! Deliberately tormenting him!

Detestable!

Damn child!

Sang Yan met Wuya’s murderous gaze, and feeling a chill in her heart, she quickly instructed the palace attendant, “Quick, wipe the Emperor–”

She dared not clean up the mess herself for fear of losing control and vomiting on him again.

“Yes.”

The palace attendant went to wipe the vomit off Wuya.

“Get away!”

Wuya shouted angrily at the advancing attendant, fixing his gaze directly on Sang Yan, “You vomited, you wipe it! If you vomit on me again, Sang Yan, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
