- Chapter 592 - Chapter 592 Chapter 592 Innocent
Chapter 592: Chapter 592 Innocent Chapter 592: Chapter 592 Innocent Moments later, Yi Huai sat down again. By then, he had struggled to calm his emotions. Yet his face still looked very grim, tinged with a trace of worry.
“Everything is already out in the open, does Uncle Yi still not intend to speak?” Zhong Niangyao smiled as she began, “If that’s the case, then I don’t think there’s a need for us to continue talking. After all, it’s just wasting time.”
The term “Uncle Yi” seemed to carry an endless amount of irony when she said it.
“You already know, don’t you?” Yi Huai grimly looked at Zhong Niangyao, “So the words you said at the end of our last meeting were deliberately spoken for me to hear, weren’t they?”
“Oh, so are you admitting that the reason my mother ended up like this, it’s all your doing?”
As she spoke, though her smile remained on Zhong Niangyao’s face, an icy chill emanated from her, as if one were in the depths of winter.
“If that’s really the case, then what face do you have to show up here at the Baili Family? Is it to provoke or to boast?”
“I–” Yi Huai was left speechless by the retort, but eventually, he spoke up, “Yes, I was behind it all. I planned it. The reason why Le Yao has been in a coma all these years, it’s all because of me.”
“So what?” Zhong Niangyao sneered coldly, continuing, “What face do you have to come here? Even if your skin is thick, it can’t be to such an extent! Or is this a provocation by the Yi Family against the Baili Family?”
“Yes! I also would like to know.”
An elderly voice sounded, and as the three turned toward it, they saw Baili Hengyuan approaching them.
Immediately, Yi Huai’s complexion drastically changed; he didn’t even dare to make eye contact with Baili Hengyuan.
He had named Zhong Niangyao specifically today because he wanted to avoid Baili Hengyuan, but still, Baili Hengyuan had shown up.
He could still speak in the presence of Zhong Niangyao. Because he had no connections with her, and he believed, despite the fact that Zhong Niangyao was Baili Le Yao’s biological daughter, the mother and daughter had not spent any time together over the years. Even with a blood relationship, their emotional bonds couldn’t be that deep. There might be a chance to convince her then.
But if Baili Hengyuan was present, he would have no confidence at all.
“Grandfather, why are you here?” Zhong Niangyao rose to her feet, a bit surprised, “Did Housekeeper Bai inform you?”
Since Zhong Niangyao had risen, Lu Yichen naturally couldn’t continue sitting. He didn’t have strong feelings for Baili Hengyuan, but since he was an elder of Zhong Niangyao’s, he obviously respected him.
Baili Hengyuan nodded to Zhong Niangyao and Lu Yichen, then took his seat, his gaze falling on Yi Huai, “I heard Yi Huai came over, so naturally I wanted to come and see. Moreover, I really want to know–”
His tone was cold, almost freezing, “Yi Huai, how has our Baili Family wronged you? Why do you treat my daughter like this? Is it just because she refused the marriage with you?”
Confronted with the sharp and accusatory gaze of Baili Hengyuan, Yi Huai was evasive. He said nothing and didn’t know how to begin.
He knew he should kneel on the ground and beg for Baili Hengyuan’s forgiveness. But his pride wouldn’t allow him to do such a thing.
Moreover, his visit today was meant to conduct a deal, and he would not allow himself to be at a disadvantage from the start.
“It’s not because of that.”
The one who answered was Zhong Niangyao, a mocking smile curling her lips, “Everyone thinks he had deep-rooted feelings for my mom. In fact, the person he loved most was always his current wife.”
“What?” Baili Hengyuan frowned, disbelief in his tone, “But his wife–”
“Everyone thinks he was forced into marriage, right?” Zhong Niangyao laughed, shaking her head, “His affection for his wife is the sincere and devoted kind! He did so much, plotted against my mother, drained her of her vitality, but it was all used to nurture that woman.”
“Yi Huai, you–”
Baili Hengyuan slammed the table forcefully, his gaze filled with indignation when he looked at Yi Huai, “The Yi Family is going too far.”
“This has nothing to do with the Yi Family; it was all done by me alone,” Yi Huai quickly interjected, “And Wanwan, she’s innocent too.”
Upon hearing Yi Huai’s words, Baili Hengyuan was almost beside himself with anger but was restrained by Lu Yichen at his side.
Although he knew Lu Yichen was Zhong Niangyao’s fiance and likely to be his granddaughter’s husband-to-be, the aura emanating from Lu Yichen was far too formidable. Even without any direct confrontation, he couldn’t help but feel a trace of fear in his presence.
Yes, fear.
He didn’t know why, but that’s how he felt.
“Innocent?” Zhong Niangyao looked at Yi Huai, scoffing, “How could she possibly be innocent? Yes, you’re the one who did all this, but the person enjoying the results is her.”
“Eating the ‘human flesh steamed buns’ my mother paid for, now you’re claiming her innocence. Don’t you find such a claim to be ironic?”
“Wanwan is a kind, wonderful woman,” Yi Huai immediately countered, “She disagreed with these methods at the beginning. It’s just that she couldn’t overcome my will.”
“And all of it, I did. She didn’t participate at all, and she has always felt sorry for Le Yao.”
“This is truly the biggest joke I have ever heard in my life,” Zhong Niangyao curled her lips, speaking with irony, “I think, if she were unwilling, your twisted and evil ‘magic’ could never have taken place. After all, you can’t force the cow to drink water if it doesn’t want to.”
“She contentedly enjoys everything, yet my mother has lain like a vegetable in bed for over twenty years now. And you actually say the person enjoying the fruits is a kind and wonderful person? Isn’t that a joke?”
“Yi Huai, although I could guess you would certainly come, I really want to know why you had the face to come here. Is it for that kind and wonderful wife of yours?”
“So should I now praise the greatness of your love? That ‘great’ love that sacrificed someone else.”
With every word laden with sarcasm, Yi Huai was left speechless.
