Chapter 611: Chapter 611: The Ploy of Self-Injury
It was unclear how much time had passed before Baili Hengyuan finally arrived, fashionably late.
Following him, to no one’s surprise, were Zhong Niangyao and Lu Yichen. They had come with Baili Hengyuan for an evident purpose.
Seeing the arrival of Zhong Niangyao and Lu Yichen, Yi Huai, who had been standing there all along, couldn’t help but flash a gloomy light in his eyes.
Baili Hengyuan didn’t bother to greet anyone before taking the main seat.
Lu Yichen and Zhong Niangyao disregarded the two from the Yi Family completely and sat down directly, picking up their teacups and taking a sip without any pretense.
This blatant disregard made Yi Lin frown deeply. He had initially wanted to scold them, but remembering his purpose for the day, he swallowed back his words.
“What a rare visitor indeed!” Baili Hengyuan began with a tone dripping with sarcasm. “It’s surprising that the Family Head Yi would deign to visit our Baili Family. I thought your Yi Family hated us to the bone.”
His words turned Yi Lin’s complexion sour. He knew full well that Baili Hengyuan was mocking him, but the Yi Family was at fault. Thus, faced with Baili Hengyuan’s overt mockery, he had no choice but to bite the bullet.
Taking a deep breath and enduring Baili Hengyuan’s sarcasm, Yi Lin cleared his throat and began, “Brother Baili, the fault lies with our Yi Family. As a father, I failed to discipline my children properly, and for that, I am here to offer my sincere apologies.”
Having said that, he stood up and bowed deeply to Baili Hengyuan with proper respect.
Initially full of sarcastic remarks, Baili Hengyuan’s anger somewhat subsided after seeing Yi Lin’s demeanor. However, “Family Head Yi, since you’ve come today to apologize, why bring Yi Huai along? He’s the main culprit behind what happened to Le Yao. Do you think I want to see him now?”
If possible, he would love nothing more than to kill Yi Huai. If it weren’t for Yi Huai, his daughter wouldn’t have been comatose for so many years. Over twenty years of her youth wasted! Even though she had now awakened, those lost two decades of youth, the separation from her flesh and blood, the years of comatose–all of that remained a painful fact.
“Get down on your knees and apologize to your uncle,” barked Yi Lin, addressing Yi Huai. “After committing such monstrous acts, you should be begging for forgiveness.”
Upon hearing Yi Lin’s scolding, Yi Huai took a step forward and immediately knelt down. “Uncle, it’s all my fault. I was the one who harmed Le Yao. Whatever punishment you see fit, I won’t resist. Just please forgive me. I will do anything,” he pleaded.
After speaking, he knocked his head on the ground three times, the loud “thud thud thud” sounds were clearly sincere. After three kowtows, a bump swelled on Yi Huai’s forehead, already turning a shade of purple.
Zhong Niangyao, watching from the side, couldn’t help but curl her lips into a cold sneer.
Yi Huai was playing the sympathy card! Unfortunately, such tactics only work in front of someone who cares. Even if his grandfather was once very fond of Yi Huai, after knowing the whole truth, how could he possibly soften his heart now?
“I cannot accept such grand gestures from you,” said Baili Hengyuan, his face unmoved. “Yi Huai, how dare you still show up in front of me? You should know full well that I want to kill you right now.”
Yi Huai stiffened at Baili Hengyuan’s words.
He didn’t expect that Baili Hengyuan would really show no mercy. Once treated like a beloved junior by him, Baili Hengyuan now wished death upon him.
Thinking of why he had come today, Yi Huai felt a tightening in his chest, an overwhelming worry.
Just recalling the torment of the past few days caused him to shudder uncontrollably. He dared not imagine if he had to endure such pain indefinitely, how much longer could he last.
But even though the suffering was unbearable, he lacked the courage to end his life. Especially after knowing the tortures Huang Wan suffered in hell, he was even more afraid of death. He feared that he could no longer be reborn as a human after death.
With this in mind, he couldn’t help but look up and sneak a glance at Zhong Niangyao.
The events of that day were vivid in his memory; he remembered clearly how familiar Zhong Niangyao was with the Judge of hell.
He was genuinely curious as to who Zhong Niangyao truly was and why she was on such familiar terms with a Judge of hell.
Sensing the gaze on her, Zhong Niangyao looked up, catching Yi Huai peeking at her. Her lips curled into a cold smile, and her eyes turned sharp.
Startled, Yi Huai momentarily stopped breathing under Zhong Niangyao’s piercing gaze. Fear washed over him, and he quickly averted his eyes.
His pitiful demeanor was clear for all present to see.
Lu Yichen’s icy gaze fell on Yi Huai. Without uttering a word or altering his posture, he managed to make Yi Huai feel as if he’d fallen into a pit of ice.
Yi Huai felt a bone-chilling cold envelop his entire body, as if he stood exposed in a snowy field on a winter day. And yet, he also felt like an insignificant ant, easily crushed at any moment.
Yi Lin noticed something was amiss with Yi Huai; looking in his direction, he saw Yi Huai frozen in place, sweating profusely, and shivering violently.
Realizing something was wrong, he glanced at Lu Yichen and felt a surge of cold dread.
Just as he was about to speak, Baili Hengyuan calmly interjected.
“Family Head Yi, sometimes young people need to learn their lessons. We, as elders, shouldn’t meddle too much.”
Yi Lin clenched his teeth but remained silent.
Baili Hengyuan’s words were a clear threat; it was as if he was saying that any interference now would result in being thrown out immediately.
Remembering why they were there today, Yi Lin ultimately decided to swallow his pride.
At the same time, he became increasingly wary of Lu Yichen. If just his gaze and aura were this intimidating, just how deep was his strength?
“Enough,” uttered Zhong Niangyao softly, and Lu Yichen withdrew his gaze.
It was only then that Yi Huai felt like he was brought back to life. Just moments earlier, he was sure he was about to die.
