Chapter 237: Chapter 237 I Will Give You An Explanation
Chen Ke had just pushed open the door when he felt a burst of cool air. The basement had the air conditioning on, and the temperature was much cooler than above ground.
The basement space was large, and in the past, it might have been used as a storage room. But now it had been tidied up into a place fit for living. The environment couldn’t be said to be very good, but at least there were ample living supplies, and it was sufficiently concealed–a very safe haven.
The entire room was about more than 200 square meters. On the left side, there were workout machines like treadmills and barbells, and on the right, a television was mounted on the wall. The small coffee table and desk were piled with snacks and drinks, and opposite the television, there was a folding sofa, with even a PS3 on the floor.
The screen was showing Tekken 5; it seemed Lucina really liked playing this game.
Lucina was standing with her back to Chen Ke. Her dark brown, slightly curly, long hair was tied at the back of her head, wet with sweat and sticking to her back. Lucina was wearing a black tank top and red boxing shorts, barefooted, with her hands gripping a boxing bag, bending her head down as she rested.
Chen Ke gently closed the door, then slowly approached Lucina. The room’s lighting came entirely from several daylight lamps on the ceiling, and the exhaust fans on the wall were blowing continuously.
Even with the air conditioning on, Lucina was covered in sweat from her high-intensity workout.
The sweat flowed down her rounded shoulders, traced the perfect curves of her arm muscles, gathered into droplets at her elbows, and fell to the ground. The back of her black tank top was soaked in a large patch.
“Has Chen Ke not returned the call yet, Dad?” Lucina asked, not looking behind her, her voice tinged with disappointment.
“He told me to come down directly…” Chen Ke said quietly.
Lucina’s body trembled, but she did not turn around; instead, she threw her fists up again, resuming her violent strikes against the punching bag.
“It looks like you’ve recovered well… your strength seems as great as before…” Chen Ke observed.
Without a word, Lucina kept hitting the bag, although her blows seemed to lighten.
“Hey… Lucina…” Chen Ke called out.
Lucina’s movements slowed, and at the moment Chen Ke called her, her cheeks turned slightly to the right, but she quickly composed herself back.
“It seems you don’t plan on continuing to disappear, Mr. Mad Fak,” Lucina said coldly.
“I was held up by some things and had to disappear for a couple of days,” Chen Ke replied with a chuckle.
“I’m guessing those ‘things’ have something to do with the two women you met at the bank,” Lucina said.
“Actually, it was just related to one of them…” Chen Ke corrected.
“+1 minute”
…
Lucina’s fist hung in midair as she suddenly spun around, her face filled with anger, and slammed her fist into Chen Ke’s chest.
Chen Ke felt the punch like a boulder flying from afar, making him grunt and step back two paces.
“You’ve shattered my heart…” Chen Ke said, clutching his chest and exhaling deeply.
He was sure Lucina had not used her full strength; had it been a fight to the death, Lucina’s punch would likely have broken his ribs.
“Apologize to me,” Lucina demanded angrily.
“What?” Chen Ke was taken aback.
“You must apologize to me, Mr. Mad Fak!” Lucina stood with her hands on her hips, waiting for Chen Ke.
Sweat trickled down Lucina’s forehead, sliding down her cheeks and forming droplets at her chin, incessantly dripping onto her chest.
In the hollow of her collarbone, the accumulated sweat had formed a small pool, and under the incandescent light, Lucina’s bronzed skin seemed to have a layer of oil, and the edges of her muscle lines were reflecting white light.
Chen Ke swallowed, not knowing why, but he felt somewhat thirsty.
“Why…?” he asked.
“I’ve never felt like this before, Mr. Mad Fak. Even though I’m angry with you, I wanted to see you. I’ve never called someone non-stop like this, nor have I felt the frustration of not reaching someone by phone. You must apologize to me… see if it makes me feel better, now! Apologize to me!” Lucina insisted.
“Fine… as you wish, girl… It was my fault this time. If I need to disappear for a while next time, I’ll make sure to call you first…” Chen Ke sighed.
Lucina reached out and grabbed Chen Ke’s red tie, saying, “No… that’s not enough! Whatever happens, you need to let me know.”
“That’s asking for too much… after all, that’s not something I can control…” Chen Ke spread his hands.
“Chen Ke… don’t make me misunderstand you… I don’t like that. You saved me that day; you didn’t have to come. Don’t ruin the illusion I have of you. I’ve just started to enter your universe; don’t disappoint me,” Lucina moved closer to Chen Ke, looking into his eyes.
“In my universe, there is only one star, and that’s you,” Chen Ke said with a smile.
Lucina quivered slightly, her expression softened, her eyes filled with love, and she began to unbutton Chen Ke’s shirt.
Chen Ke immediately grabbed Lucina’s wrist.
“No, not yet…” He stepped back and then released Lucina’s hand.
Lucina was taken aback for a moment, realizing something, and snorted before turning back to continue pummeling the punching bag.
“What did your dad tell you, Chen Ke? Did he mention that matter?” Lucina asked.
The sound of punches hitting the bag echoed inside the room.
“Eh? Which matter?” Chen Ke didn’t understand.
“About your extraordinary ability… He asked me, but I’m really not good at lying,” Lucina said.
“Of course… but he doesn’t mind. However…” Chen Ke walked up to the punching bag.
“What did he say to you? The usual old man’s warnings?” Lucina inquired.
“He hopes you can lead a more normal life,” Chen Ke said.
Lucina wrapped her left arm around the punching bag, tilted her head, and looked at Chen Ke, “Like what?”
“Like buying a big house in Carefree City, raising a few dogs, strolling around the shopping mall on weekends,” Chen Ke said.
“Ha! That sounds like something he would say. Look, Chen Ke, do you think I’m the kind of woman who stays content? I chose this path not because I had no other choice, but because I like this thrilling life. Holding a gun, pressing it against someone’s forehead, yelling down at these scumbags! Hand over everything! That’s just fantastic! You joined the postman for the same reason, right?” Lucina laughed.
“That kind of thrill will get you killed one day…” Chen Ke said helplessly.
“Heh… why do you sound just like my dad when clearly you’re from the same camp?” Lucina rolled her eyes, pushed away the punching bag, and began to unwind the wraps from her hands.
“You have quite an artistic talent; all the masks for the postmen are your designs. Maybe you could try being an artist,” Chen Ke suggested as he followed her.
“That sounds good too… but it’s not thrilling at all. Chen Ke, I don’t want to talk about this. Let’s change the subject… Oh… how are your fighting skills?” Lucina shook her head and looked at Chen Ke.
“Why are you asking this all of a sudden…?” Chen Ke was puzzled.
“We have the facility right here; look, there’s even an extra pair of boxing shorts and protective gear… I’ve always wanted to see how good you are… Care to have a bout?” Lucina leaned in close to Chen Ke, resting her left arm on his right shoulder.
“Let’s not… Your injuries haven’t healed, and it’s only been two days…” Chen Ke advised.
Chen Ke was skilled in killing techniques, not competitive ones, and he feared that he might accidentally kill Lucina on the spot.
Wrestling with this muscular sister here, Chen Ke might lose. But if it were about killing her, that would be as easy as breathing.
“I feel like I’m almost healed. Those freakish punches are as weak as cross-dressers; my muscles aren’t just for show,” Lucina laughed.
“Then let them stay for show; there’s no need to actually use them,” Chen Ke waved his hand.
“Fine… I finally get to see you, but I’ve been continuously rejected twice, Chen Ke. I’m disappointed. I don’t find your universe very interesting. My comet might fly away soon…” Lucina sighed, turned away, unwrapping her hand wraps as she spoke.
Chen Ke smiled, pulled out a Spiritual Energy M1911A1 from his holster, approached Lucina from behind, and extended the pistol in front of her.
“What is this…” Lucina fixated on the gunmetal-gray weapon without looking away.
“This is something only the agents from the Administration Bureau can use, brand new,” Chen Ke boasted.
Lucina took the gun, examining it in her hands, feeling the fine craftsmanship and a sense of wholeness different from ordinary firearms.
She gripped the handle, aimed, and pulled the trigger, only to hear a ‘click’ with nothing firing.
“If you’re not a Spiritual Ability User, you can’t use this gun, but I think you’ll like it,” Chen Ke said.
“This baby is really sexy… Are you giving it to me?” Lucina was surprised.
“Who knows, maybe one day you can use it, and don’t let Pihom see it,” Chen Ke laughed.
“No… This gun is more useful to you… All I can do is keep it as a collectible,” Lucina shook her head.
“I have two more; you keep this one as an amulet,” Chen Ke said, pressing against Lucina’s back, his hands clasping over hers on the gun, helping her to aim.
“Huhh…” Lucina breathed heavily, leaning back into Chen Ke’s embrace.
“I should go, girl; there are some things I need to deal with,” Chen Ke said as he let go and slowly retreated.
“Huh… You’re always so busy… Chen Ke, you’re always… in a rush… Can’t you take it easy for once?” Lucina turned back, looking at Chen Ke.
“I’d like to… but not just yet. Once I get these things sorted out, I’ll make it up to you, girl,” Chen Ke said as he pushed open the red leather door and stepped out.
Lucina, holding the Spiritual Ability Pistol, felt a rush of emotions.
