Chapter 243: Chapter 243: Jump Out of Reasoning
When Professor Chen Ke pushed open the door and entered, he did not seem particularly surprised; Chen Ke dragged his gun and examined the professor with white and sparse hair.
The professor was dressed in a black suit, with a blue tie, sparse white hair circling around his temples and the back of his head, avoiding his forehead which, under the orange light, shone brightly.
With his hands clasped behind his back, the professor was remarkably calm–for someone of his age, he had probably seen this kind of scene too often.
“You seem very composed,” Chen Ke couldn’t help but say.
“Panic and confusion stem from the unknown; your gun has already informed me of your intentions, so why should I be panicked?” the professor responded coldly.
“It seems a lot of people want you dead, Professor,” Chen Ke said.
“And why do you want me dead?” the professor asked.
Chen Ke hesitated and did not reply; it was a question he also didn’t know the answer to.
“It seems you’re just a dog doing this for money,” the professor shook his head.
“At least I can decide whether you live or die, Professor,” Chen Ke replied coldly, raising his gun to aim at the professor.
“Did you see any guards when you came in?” the professor asked with a smile.
“No, why?” Chen Ke said.
“Do you know why I don’t need guards?” the professor said.
Chen Ke’s body tensed, his muscles tight; he stared at the old man in front of him–could he be a powerful Spiritual Ability User?
But he felt no killing intent; was the professor just trying to intimidate him?
“You seem to be trying to scare me… Professor, that’s unwise,” Chen Ke said, his index finger on the trigger, just a pull away from sending a 9mm bullet through the professor’s head.
But Chen Ke hesitated for a moment and then put the safety on his Glock.
The professor noticed Chen Ke’s action and his face showed confusion and interest.
“Let me tell you; I am… inevitable. I will not die before I complete my mission,” the professor said with a smile.
“The trigger is in my hand; if I wish it, you could be dead in the next second,” Chen Ke said.
“Some things are predestined, you can’t change what is meant to happen–do you believe in fate?” the professor asked with a smile.
“You have piqued my curiosity, Professor. Tell me, what is your fate?” Chen Ke asked, although from the professor’s demeanor, he didn’t seem to be merely intimidating; he spoke confidently and assuredly as if he was entirely certain of his words.
Chen Ke activated his Spiritual Vision and scanned the surroundings of the villa but didn’t find anyone who looked like reinforcements.
“Hmm… I am saving humanity… do you believe that?” the professor asked.
Chen Ke’s mouth twitched into a slight smile and he shook his head.
“You know nothing of the future, time, and the essence of this world. My fate dictates that I cannot be killed before I complete my mission,” the professor was not angered by Chen Ke’s mockery.
Chen Ke stayed silent, not understanding what the professor meant, so he quietly waited for him to explain.
“Those who want to kill me will be eliminated before they can act; your actions have all been observed, and the outcomes they would cause are not permitted. You are not in the plans for the future,” the professor said.
“Are you so confident because of that woman just now? Who is she?” Chen Ke asked.
“You do not deserve to know; you’re just an assassin, while she and her organization behind her are humanity’s only guardians. You are just a minor distraction while I’m on my mission; I advise you to put away your weapon and leave now, otherwise… you will be erased,” the professor said coldly.
“So, you mean to say, the moment I even think about pulling the trigger, I will die?” Chen Ke asked with a laugh.
“Exactly, the actions you are about to take have already been foreseen by them; they will eliminate you before you can carry them out… do you understand?” the professor said.
Chen Ke unlocked the safety on his Glock, not truly believing the professor’s words, but he couldn’t dismiss the possibility entirely.
It might be hard for others to believe in time travel, but the current Chen Ke wouldn’t disbelieve it.
“Let’s give it a try… Professor,” Chen Ke aimed at the professor and pulled the trigger.
“Puff!”
The crisp sound of a jet erupted in the room–the sound of a silenced pistol firing.
The 9mm bullet didn’t hesitate to pierce through the professor’s right chest, drilling a bloody hole through his aged muscle tissue along with his imposing black suit.
The bullet didn’t exit the body but tumbled and stayed inside the professor, leaving behind a cavity in his chest.
The professor’s expression darkened. He clenched over the bloody hole in his right chest, his body shaking in pain as he collapse to the floor.
With his Spiritual Vision active, Chen Ke stayed alert to his surroundings. If that woman had foreseen all this, she should have already arrived.
“Ugh…hiss…oh, so this is what it feels like to be shot…” the professor moaned in pain.
“I hope that organization you mentioned has seen all this. Where are they?” Chen Ke asked.
“It shouldn’t be this way… I shouldn’t have been shot… they were supposed to take you down…” the professor said, clutching his wound, watching his own blood spurt out and pool on the floor.
Right now, he lost his composure, his face filled with fear, pain, and confusion.
“It seems fate has abandoned you… Professor, I’m truly sorry.” Chen Ke stepped forward, aiming the gun at the professor’s head.
“No! It’s not supposed to be this way… they should have come for me by now… just wait a little longer…” the professor grabbed Chen Ke’s wrist.
“Puff!”
The bullet entered the professor’s forehead, crushing through the skull at such close range. A 9mm bullet could penetrate the skull, ripping through the brain tissue.
Brain matter spouted from the back of his head, spreading over the floor in a mix of red and white. His body slumped sideways, lying in the pool of blood, his eyes still open.
Chen Ke looked around; there was still no sign of anyone suspicious in the vicinity of the villa, and if that woman was to come, she would probably appear out of nowhere…
Chen Ke sighed, picked up the ejected shell from the floor. The professor’s words were spectacular but ultimately deceptive… However, the content of that woman’s conversation with the professor was indeed worth noting.
What exactly is this foundation they spoke of? What are they doing? Chen Ke couldn’t deduce, but from Yasla’s body in the pool, it seemed they were in opposition.
One mystery led to another, and even Chen Ke himself felt numbed by it all, unsure of what these events and these people meant, but it didn’t matter to him.
Chen Ke left the villa complex and hailed a taxi on the street, heading overnight to Lester’s clothing store.
2014, United Federation, Newtown City, on a hot summer afternoon.
A woman with red clothes and black hair stood on the hotel balcony. Clouds rolled in the splendid sunshine, and the usual traffic moved below.
She frowned, picked up her phone, and dialed a number. Within a few seconds, someone on the other end picked up.
“What’s going on?”
“The professor has been killed.”
“That’s impossible, the timeline doesn’t predict this…”
“Could it be possible… that some actions are unpredictable… and we can only understand them after the results present themselves?”
“There’s no such thing as someone acting outside of reason; it must have been them interfering.”
“Oh… That’s really troublesome…”
