Chapter 247: Chapter 247: Who Is Your Father?
Chen Ke squatted in front of the Black Man, staring into his eyes. The Black Man had just come to after passing out and seemed a bit nervous at the sight of Chen Ke’s face.
“Hey, Black Guy, I’ve got some questions for you. Whose side are you on?” Chen Ke asked.
“I’d like to ask you… where the fuck did you come from, huh? You don’t look ordinary, are you her boyfriend or her bodyguard?” the Black Man asked.
Chen Ke sighed, then suddenly plunged the knife into the Black Man’s shoulder, prompting him to howl in pain as his legs flailed wildly on the ground.
Chen Ke stood up, his foot pressing down on the knife handle, driving it in deeper as blood squirted from the wound.
“Ah! Ah!!… Oh… damn it all…” the Black Man gritted his teeth and cursed.
“Whose side are you on?” Chen Ke demanded, looking down at the Black Man.
“You’d better answer his question, otherwise, I don’t know what he might do to you,” Sleery said, standing beside Chen Ke with her elbow propped on his shoulder, smiling down at the Black Man.
“You’re done for, kid. You’ve messed with the consortium; they’ll send Assassins for you, and your little girlfriend too. Soon, the two of you will be locked in a basement, watching each other being slowly tortured to death. Just you wait!” the Black Man threatened.
“You’re missing the point. There are many consortia in this world. My dad is also a part of a consortium, and he will send people to take revenge on you!” Sleery said.
Chen Ke glanced at Sleery, then back at the Black Man, and asked, “Why not tell us which consortium you all belong to? Maybe we’re all acquainted…”
“Hey hey hey… you think I’m going to tell you? Dream on,” the Black Man laughed.
Larger Spiritual Businesses all cultivate their own Assassins, such as Si’s consortium, whose previous persona Lin Mo, was a Spiritual Ability Killer for Si’s consortium.
Those who did dirty work couldn’t stand the light. No consortium would admit to owning such a team of Assassins, and as their lackeys, they naturally kept mum about their affiliation.
“Why are you going after my dad!?” Sleery demanded.
“He’s a piece to be discarded, but he holds a high position and must be eliminated. It’s as simple as that,” the Black Man said laughingly.
“That means… you’re…” Sleery stumbled, her body shaking slightly.
Chen Ke seemed to catch on to something. It seemed that Sleery’s dad and these Assassins belonged to the same consortium… For some reason, the consortium had decided to purge Sleery’s dad…
“This can’t be true… I have to find him…” Sleery, previously composed, now seemed a bit panicked and at a loss.
“Sleery, stay calm, maybe he’s lying to you,” Chen Ke said.
“I keep secrets, but I never lie, Miss Miles. Your father is a dead man. It seems he prefers to flee alone rather than take you with him. Ha ha ha ha ha… Do you still think we’re lying to you? If we found you, it was thanks to your dad…”
“Bang!”
Before the Black Man could finish, Sleery raised her gun and blew his head open, spattering blood and brain matter all over the bed.
Chen Ke was startled and looked at Sleery, who was holding an Assassin’s dropped P226 pistol, her expression filled with both anger and fear.
“What the hell?! What are you doing? He was our only lead! How could you kill him just like that??” Chen Ke exclaimed angrily.
“My dad would never abandon me… never…” Sleery seemed not to hear what Chen Ke was saying, repeating the same phrase over and over.
“Sleery, Sleery… calm down,” Chen Ke said, grabbing her shoulders and looking into her eyes.
“Chen… I… If what they’re saying is true…” Sleery appeared to be deeply shocked.
“They must be lying to you,” Chen Ke said. “In the information age, finding someone isn’t that difficult… Tracking your cell phone number can lead them straight to you, it’s not that hard.”
“I have to find him… Lin Ke, I have to go… ugh…” Sleery said, feeling a wave of nausea surging up. She covered her mouth, her knees buckled, and she collapsed into Chen Ke’s arms.
Chen Ke helped her to sit on the sofa and took the P226 from her hand.
Sleery was bent over, looking like she desperately wanted to vomit but couldn’t. Chen Ke knew this was a symptom of a severe blow to the stomach, intestines, and the nerve plexus of the abdominal muscles.
Human muscles are an extraordinary thing, twisted together like a twist braid, similar to strong elastic springs.
The abdominal muscles are the largest and softest muscle group in the body, covered with nerves and blood vessels; their function is to coordinate the actions of the body, providing stability and support, and are not meant to act as armor.
Behind the abdominal muscles and fat tissue are the viscera without any skeletal protection; when someone’s abdomen is violently hit, the protection provided by the abdominal muscles is actually quite limited, and the nerve plexus first conveys a severe pain.
Afterward, the organs and intestines will also be subject to compression and stimulation; a shattered liver can lead to death, a blow to the stomach and intestines can cause vomiting, and a hit to the kidneys could likely cause incontinence.
Experienced assassins usually stab the kidneys with a dagger because that severe pain will silence anyone, making it the perfect spot for assassination.
Sleery sat on the sofa as if she had been struck by something. Chen Ke had come to find her originally to make her give up… or even to kill her, but now, in this situation, he couldn’t bring himself to do that.
“You’d better change your clothes…” Chen Ke said, walking to the window to look down, worried that more assassins would come.
Sleery leaned on the wall, went into the bathroom to clean up, and when she came out wrapped in a white bath towel, Chen Ke consciously turned away.
After tidying up in the bedroom, she put on a purple sleeveless top and a black leather skirt, and took out her Spiritual Ability Pistol.
“We don’t need to deal with monsters; a regular pistol will do,” Chen Ke said.
He handed the P226 to Sleery, then started searching the assassin’s body, finding five P226 magazines.
“What’s your plan now? Call the police?” Chen Ke asked.
“No… don’t call the police. My dad can handle this… We need to go find him now,” Sleery shook her head.
“Okay, do you know where he is right now? After all, even the consortium can’t find him,” Chen Ke said.
“I don’t know, but he has a cabin by the lake in the outskirts of Opportunity City… He always took me fishing there when I was little. I think he might be there…” Sleery said.
“Okay… let’s go find him. You have a car, right?” Chen Ke asked.
“Yes… I have one…” Sleery stood up, found her small bag on the sofa, which contained her wallet, car keys, and makeup.
As the two prepared to leave, Chen Ke suddenly stopped Sleery, turned around, and picked up a pair of aviator sunglasses from the bedside cabinet.
“Wear these.” Chen Ke handed the sunglasses to Sleery; they did well to cover the swelling around her eyes, even though half of her face was bruised.
The two took the elevator down to the parking garage, where Sleery found her sports car and they got in, starting the vehicle.
Sleery was in no state of mind to drive, so she sat in the passenger seat giving directions and let Chen Ke drive.
As the car left the Tulip Apartments, it passed by three other black cars.
“Sleery, if I may ask, what’s your father’s name? Which consortium is he with?” Chen Ke asked while driving.
“He’s Pankia Miles, an executive of Si’s consortium. He’ll definitely be able to sort this out,” Sleery replied.
Chen Ke’s brain buzzed, and he turned to look at Sleery.
