Chapter 1592: Section 1593 New City Design
The planning of New City has already been mentioned by Sanders. Now, having acquired the “Energy Level Limitation” Authority, there must be a new city to accommodate those who enter the Wilderness of Dreams once it’s opened.
Therefore, Angel has been very concerned with the planning of New City lately.
When Frode inquired, Angel immediately nodded in response.
Five minutes later, in an upper-level office within the Demonic Fiend laboratory, Frode handed over a batch of manuscripts to Angel.
“These designs, mostly crafted by specialists in city planning, I have reviewed, and they are decently executed,” paused Frode. “However, the best of these designs was not crafted by any of these individuals.”
Frode deliberately withheld the name of the designer.
Curious, Angel took over the designs and started to flip through them. From the first design, Angel felt deeply impressed; it was undeniable that those who specialize in city planning produced much better work than his random assemblies.
Even if the buildings in the designs weren’t drawn as professionally as those by full-time artists, the detailed and data-driven planning conjured an image of the grandeur they could embody once built.
In every design, Angel could envision a colossal city sprawling across the skies, some imbued with the solemn complexities of religious styles, some carrying the majestic aura of primitive tribes, while others exuded a classical and flamboyantly artistic charm.
Although each design had its distinctive features and was well-suited for construction, Angel felt something was still missing.
The city he intended to build was prepared for the Transcendents.
The cities in the designs were undoubtedly classical, yet they lacked a type of immediate impact at first sight.
Take, for example, Sky Mechanical City; from a distance, one would be amazed by this floating iron fortress in the clouds. Up close, the amazement persists unreduced, with every aspect, front and back, imbued with a rich mechanical style and, due to the influence of Alchemy Holy Land, elements of alchemy meticulously integrated within the stark, impressive structures.
It could be said that the design of Sky Mechanical City was greatly appreciated by Angel and was enough to awe all wizards.
There was also Ashenrock Giantstone, the first Stronghold City Angel visited in the Abyss, which he admired greatly. Although the end result of this stronghold was destruction, whenever he remembered it, he envisioned a radiant city of hymns built atop giant stones hundreds of meters tall in the dark mists of the Abyss and surrounded by dangers of demons, guiding the lost ones. This sensation, even just in reminiscence, was thrilling.
Angel didn’t expect New City to reach these heights, but he at least didn’t want it to fall into banality.
After flipping through several beautiful designs which all lacked the innovative aspect Angel was looking for,
near the end, a warm-toned orange picture suddenly caught his eye.
All previous designs were black and white, and suddenly, this colored one made Angel pause. As he continued, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
“You meant to talk about this one, didn’t you?”
Frode nodded: “Yes.”
After closely inspecting it, Angel assertively declared: “This was designed by Jon.”
Angel recognized it as Jon’s work immediately because some elements in it could never appear in the Wizards’ Realm.
For example, in the bottom left corner of the design, a building resembling a circular earthen building with upturned eaves and a red lacquered roof, slight Eastern elements from Jon’s homeland. Yet, it only featured these Eastern styles at the roof, the rest of the building assumed a fantasy style, even featuring in the middle a chimney-covered iron tower with exterior metal stairs shooting straight to the sky.
This was just one corner of the picture; other areas also featured Eastern styles but were so minimal they could be overlooked, serving only as slight embellishments amidst the haphazardly placed buildings.
The overall design had a hint of Sky Mechanical City’s essence.
Metal sheeting and reinforced concrete.
But unlike the pure steam-mechanical style of Sky Mechanical City, it leaned more towards a punk style under a steam fantasy theme.
Every component, even down to bearings, carried a meticulously non-mainstream edgy style.
Looking at this design, Angel could basically grasp what Jon meant.
Joni had great confidence in Earth’s culture, but he was not the type to stubbornly follow a singular style. He was very inclusive of cultures, which was evident in the mainstream style of this world seen throughout the design.
There was respect and compromise in adapting to local customs while also maintaining steadfastness to his own cultural roots.
It has a sense of impact, yet it doesn’t completely deviate from the mainstream aesthetic of the Wizards’ Realm. By occasionally incorporating Earth styles, it even attempts to change the acceptance of new styles among the people of the Wizards’ Realm.
The slickness of Jon is evident.
Angel believes that if the cities of Earth were directly shown to the people of the Wizards’ Realm, due to cultural discontinuities and aesthetic differences, maybe only a few would appreciate them. However, Jon skillfully avoids these issues by embellishing with Earth styles, and incorporating a punk core, to build a city that aligns with the mainstream aesthetics of the Wizards’ Realm.
“It’s beautiful.” Frode, upon seeing the design draft again, can’t help but express, “It’s filled with strong personal style, and between the structures, one can feel the intense desire of the designer to express!”
“I always thought Mr. Jon’s greatest achievement was in music. I did not realize his knowledge was so broad.”
Angel raises an eyebrow: “Naturally, after all, he is my mentor.”
If it weren’t for the foundation of education Jon provided to Angel, perhaps Angel would just be a mediocre noble among Mortals by now.
Angel hands the design draft to Frode: “Since we both favor this one, let the design of New City first be based on this blueprint.”
Frode naturally nods in agreement, just a sketch already has such visual impact, if it really comes to construction, the shock will probably be even more intense.
Frode: “I’ll find time to discuss the details with Mr. Jon, as for the implementation later…”
Angel: “The implementation is still a long way off. When it comes to that time, we will only start with a rudimentary form, the enhancements will be made by Transcendents themselves.”
After confirming the design draft, Angel spent another night in the Wilderness of Dreams, mainly to study the Ability Tree and research the Demonic Fiend.
By the time Angel left the Wilderness of Dreams, it was already the next morning.
Angel, who had fallen asleep at his desk the previous day, his hand propping up his chin, rubbed his somewhat numb hand and then fastened his loosened shirt cuffs.
After getting organized, Angel had intended to sort out the data on Shapeshifting Technique, but before he could start, he heard a commotion from outside the window.
Angel walked to the window, drew back the curtains, and opened the window.
The golden Sunshine filtered through the large tree outside the window, casting a mottled reflection on the tabletop.
Angel stood by the window, looking towards the source of the sound under the breeze.
He saw in the courtyard, Greya and Sharley were talking animatedly. Sharley had lost her previous restraint, her expression completely relaxed, her lips occasionally curling into a mischievous smile.
With a mischievous gleam in her eyes darting around, Greya didn’t dare to play pranks, but the Butler caught her attention.
Occasionally flirting with the Butler, not caring that it is merely a Magic Energy Eye. After flirting, Sharley would speak with a voice full of malice, pausing after each word, “Just kidding~”
The Butler didn’t understand what Sharley was doing, but her occasional disruptions to its work were quite annoying to it.
Greya didn’t care, instead, she egged her on.
Just as Sharley intended to continue unchecked, Angel frowned and flew out, landing in front of Sharley.
“The Butler’s master is my mentor. Are you intending to make my mentor stop your madness?” Angel said coldly.
Upon seeing Angel, the ideas for pranks rising in Sharley’s heart also halted immediately.
Angel ignored her and moved past Sharley to Greya: “It seems you and Sharley get along well?”
“Her personality is quite interesting, isn’t it?” Greya grinned, speaking in a voice only they could hear: “Mischievous enough to make one wonder if Sanders would give Water Pattern Witch a face when she confronts her.”
Greya’s expression seemed to relish the chaos, which was a headache for Angel.
However, Greya soon changed her tone: “Actually, I was joking earlier, but one thing is true, Sharley really is interesting.”
“By the way, I was discussing the Nova Tournament with Sharley, are you interested in hearing about it?”
