Chapter 1593: Section 1594: Jiebo’s Misfortune
Angel looked at Greya with suspicion.
Other than personally attending the first rematch of the novice competition, Greya had never discussed the competition before. The only reason Greya went to see the competition was to find out Angel’s nickname.
Since when did Greya take an interest in the novice competition?
With this confusion, Angel sat down. He wanted to see what exactly Sharley had mentioned that even piqued Greya’s interest.
In front of Angel, Sharley seemed a bit constrained, but as she spoke about the novice competition, her restraint slowly dissipated as she delved into her memories, only to be replaced by a strong sense of dissatisfaction.
The dissatisfaction stemmed from the fact that the match she spoke of was the one she lost.
Angel remembered that he saw from a communicator’s internal message that Sharley had lost to a contender named Asaz.
As Sharley recounted her story, Angel began to understand why Sharley felt dissatisfied and why Greya was interested.
Asaz was known by the nickname “Devil Gourmet.” The name itself was somewhat telling. Yes, Asaz was an apprentice of the culinary arts.
Almost the entire Wizards’ Realm acknowledged that, relative to others, the culinary branch was the weakest in combat power. However, the supportive role of the culinary branch was so high that sometimes it could be more useful than an alchemist specialized in potionology, which is why everyone underestimated the combat prowess of the culinary branch, yet still coveted its members. The last time Greya faced trouble, the staff at the Barbie Restaurant either scattered or were abducted, which showcases this point.
That a frail culinary apprentice made it this far was astonishing!
With the finals of the novice competition not far away, how could it not be surprising?
As a prominent figure in the culinary branch, Greya was naturally curious about Asaz.
And Sharley losing to a culinary apprentice certainly fueled her discontent.
As Sharley spoke with a tone of resentment and helplessness about the match she would likely begrudge for a long time, Greya fell into deep thought.
After a while, Greya regained her composure: “Actually, there are two culinary branch contestants among the top sixteen this time. I am aware of Sinistra, the one known as ‘The Gourmet Spirit.’ She had received an extraordinary culinary legacy, and she had even studied at the Candy House. Unfortunately, she lost her match to Trom, who has been training in the Abyss since childhood.”
“As for Asaz, this is the first time I’ve heard of him.”
The Candy House is the mecca for the Southern Domain’s culinary branch and a sanctuary for Gourmet Sorcerers. Even if a Gourmet Sorcerer doesn’t belong to the Candy House, they sometimes come to study special culinary spell techniques or recipes, just like Sinistra did.
As one of the leaders of the Candy House, Greya was nearly aware of every Gourmet Sorcerer who had studied there, even if it was just an apprentice. Yet, Asaz was not one of them.
An apprentice of the culinary branch who had never studied at the Candy House managing to make it to the top sixteen of the novice competition and even defeating the popular contender Sharley was indeed intriguing to Greya.
“I wonder where he sprung up from… This novice competition indeed brought several dark horses to the forefront. Since he hasn’t studied at the Candy House, perhaps he, like Sinistra, is a culinary apprentice who has received a legacy,” Greya mused. “I wonder whose legacy it is? I’m somewhat eager to probe into his background.”
“Sharley, do you know when Asaz has another match?” Greya asked Sharley.
Sharley hesitated for a moment: “I think there’s a match today… as the four quarterfinal matches of the top eight are scheduled to be held successively, and he is among the top eight, he is certainly going to compete. So it’s not that I want to keep an eye on him, I really don’t care about him at all.”
A mischievous smile appeared on Greya’s face: “The things one truly doesn’t care about certainly won’t be mentioned at all.”
Seeing Sharley’s resistant expression, Greya continued: “But it’s normal for you to pay attention to him since you were defeated by him.”
Greya lightly snapped her fingers, and a Phantom Shadow slowly rose in front of her, eventually transforming into a metallic Puppet.
“Just right, I bought an Alchemy Golem from the Magic Puppet Shop a few days ago; let it go and check when Asaz’s match is today,” Greya said.
However, before Greya could issue a command to the Alchemy Golem, Angel’s voice reached her ears.
“Today’s opponent for the Devil Gourmet is… the Divine Equipment Maiden.”
Greya looked puzzled as she turned to Angel, only to see him holding a thin light sheet, burying his head in reading something.
“I almost forgot, you are the special judge this time, is this internal news from the Infinite Battle Tower?” Greya suddenly realized: “Is Asaz really fighting against the heir of the Shepherd God family?”
Greya shook her head: “It seems his luck isn’t very good, Kavoline has the aid of the Shepherd God’s cloak, defeating her would be very difficult. Even Jiebo, the Son of the Ocean, would not find it easy to win against Kavoline.”
“By the way, when do they start the match? It doesn’t matter if he loses, I just want to check out Asaz’s capabilities.” Greya asked Angel.
When Greya looked towards Angel, she noticed that his gaze was fixed on the communicator, with a very strange expression.
“What happened?” Greya asked, puzzled.
Sharley, too, curiously shifted her gaze to Angel.
Angel took a moment to compose himself, then deeply exhaled and turned to Greya saying: “Before answering your question, I need to correct a misconception of yours.”
My misconception? Greya’s head was filled with question marks.
“It’s indeed not so simple for the Son of the Ocean, Jiebo, to win against Kavoline, but what if he never meets Kavoline?”
Angel paused, and under their puzzled gazes, he slowly said: “Jiebo lost.”
Greya was stunned for a moment, quite surprised by this outcome.
Having experienced many great trials and seen countless strange events, Greya only felt surprise and confusion.
But Sharley was truly shocked, covering her mouth, her eyes wide open in disbelief, exclaiming: “Jiebo lost? How is that possible?” The Son of the Ocean, Jiebo, once fought an Official Wizard as an Apprentice without falling behind, and was the Sea God’s most outstanding disciple, and yet he lost in the New Star Tournament?
Angel nodded: “He indeed lost, to… Xiliu.”
Angel had previously noticed Xiliu and Jiebo were in the same group, and he mentioned that Xiliu and Jiebo would definitely end up facing each other. But unexpectedly, they met in the very first match.
Angel believed that Jiebo definitely had the strength to contend for the pinnacle of the New Star Tournament.
But the precondition is, not to encounter Xiliu.
In the entire New Star Tournament, probably only Xiliu could target Jiebo.
Moreover, Xiliu didn’t need to use medicine to prevent falling asleep halfway because once she met Jiebo, she would immediately enter a frenzied and mad state, not stopping until she had thoroughly refined the ocean within Jiebo.
Just when everyone thought Jiebo would ride the wind to the top and wear the crown, he met his absolute counter.
One could only say… fate played a joke on Jiebo.
“Jiebo and Kavoline are not in the same group, so he couldn’t possibly meet Kavoline. And since he lost, meeting Kavoline has become even more unlikely.”
Pausing, Angel continued: “Regarding the question you asked, the match between the Devil Gourmet and the Divine Equipment Maiden has already started, actually it started over half an hour ago; it might be too late for you to probe his capabilities. I guess the results will come out soon.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Angel saw a new message pop up on the communicator.
