Chapter 944: Chapter 305: Tang Fangjing Reports a Case at Paper Mountain, Officer Ge Stays Up All Night to Make an Arrest!
Officer Ge is really seeing stars now; such a big case is definitely beyond the scope of their local police station, and it must be reported to the branch.
But just one look at that van outside tells the whole story; how long is it going to take to sort through that mountain of evidence!
The branch is definitely short-handed, and will certainly need to pull in additional staff. And with the New Year coming? What a way to celebrate!
Seeing Officer Ge’s complexion turn dark, Lawyer Tang is a bit puzzled and says, “What’s wrong, Officer Ge, you seem quite unhappy? This evidence is all real, I went through a lot to get it…”
Officer Ge: “Who’s unhappy? I’m very happy, extremely happy!”
Just then, the deputy director comes over with a laugh: “What’s all the fuss about? I see it’s pretty lively here. Has Lawyer Tang come to boost our performance again?”
No sooner had he finished speaking than Officer Ge pointed at the van and said, “Yeah, that whole van is a ‘performance boost’.”
Huh? The deputy director paused for a second, the smile slowly fading from his face: “That whole van, is full of…?”
“Yes, full of it. So Lawyer Tang asked me if I’m happy, and I told him I’m thrilled. Are you thrilled, Director Liu?”
At this, Director Liu simply pointed at Officer Ge, unable to utter a single word.
Then turned to the side of the van for a look, and with a heavy expression said, “Report it, then. Looks like our branch won’t be having a nice New Year this year…”
A single fraud case or false advertising case is minor, but what about a hundred of them, or two hundred? Who can call that minor!
Director Liu casually picked up a contract to examine, and then turned to say, “Lawyer Tang, is this quantity a bit… excessive?”
Lawyer Tang again gestured towards Officer Ge and said, “Director Liu, you were there last time, right? Officer Ge personally told me that it would be good to have more of these types of cases, so I did exactly as he requested.”
“You can’t back out now!”
Director Liu, with a laugh that was also a wince, explained: “It’s not about backing out. When you bring such a load of evidence to report a case, we, of course, have to inspect… to carefully assess it.”
When he got to the word “inspect,” Director Liu subconsciously glanced at the evidence in the van, and said nothing more. Who knows how many nights we’ll have to spend just going over this stuff.
“You see, Lawyer Tang, for example, this contract, you claim there’s contractual fraud involved, but this kind of thing usually falls under civil deceit…”
Lawyer Tang has always reported cases like this, in order to reduce the workload of the Public Security Authorities, he usually classifies and marks the evidence properly.
And Director Liu isn’t just nitpicking; having just casually picked one up and found it questionable, it’s only right to raise the issue.
This is normal; were these conditions enough to determine contractual fraud and file a case, then petitions for rights would be much easier, and there would have been no need for Lawyer Tang’s elaborate efforts.
In truth, the reason law consultation firms can carry on like this is that such behaviour is usually classified as civil deception!
Because in the eyes of criminal law, they don’t have the motivation of illegal possession, as they did actually offer legal consultation–even if that consultation may have been just a few words, it still counts as consultation.
So for situations like this, if you go to report a case, it’s mostly considered civil deceit, and the police will advise you to either file a complaint with the market regulation authorities or resolve the issue through legal channels.
But, Lawyer Tang had already thought this through.
Hearing Director Liu say this, Lawyer Tang leaned in for a look and immediately laughed; this was material collected by Wang Yingying.
He then took out ten contracts and transfer records from the van and said, “Director Liu, you say one contract qualifies as civil deceit, what about ten identical contracts?”
“Moreover, I have recordings from the time of negotiation, and in all ten pieces of evidence the other party claimed they would help with the lawsuit, but after the contract was signed, it all changed to legal consultation. You’re saying there’s no issue here?”
Director Liu examined it carefully and nodded: “This does indeed need to be thoroughly investigated…”
The core difference between fraud and civil deceit is whether it’s a scam for money.
“Well then, Lawyer Tang, we will accept the evidence for the time being. As for whether we’ll open a case, we first need to organize everything… otherwise, it’s tricky to handle,” Director Liu finally stated.
Lawyer Tang nodded graciously: “No problem.”
Director Liu then turned to go call for help; with so much material, it had to be moved inside quickly.
So, one by one, young officers emerged to begin moving the material, with the uninformed ones asking what this was all about, while the older cops who knew Lawyer Tang already wore masks of agony on their faces.
Reporting a case with Lawyer Tang was a real bittersweet experience for everyone.
It turned out that the station’s efficiency really was higher than the law firm’s; it took them only fifteen minutes to move everything inside.
Thereafter, Lawyer Tang kindly bid Officer Ge farewell: “Then Officer Ge, I’ll be on my way. With New Year’s approaching, let me wish you an early New Year’s greeting.”
Officer Ge managed a strained smile; he really shouldn’t have made that extra comment in the past!
It was again Wang Qingqing who drove; the two of them headed back to the law firm while the Renmin Road Police Station promptly reported the case to the branch, and the staff from all departments, well, forget about celebrating the New Year, it was time to get to work together.
At the branch, the leadership, upon seeing the photos that had been sent over, were stunned for a good long moment, asking the person beside them what this “mountain of paper” was for…
When they heard it was material Lawyer Tang had sent over, the blood pressure of the branch leadership went through the roof.
Needless to say, those who were already scheduled for shifts were urgently summoned back from home after years, and Bright District once again remembered the fear dominated by Lawyer Tang.
Over the years, Lawyer Tang has been causing trouble elsewhere; Bright District, his home base, had almost forgotten about him. This time, he finally stirred up a big fuss.
