Chapter 1061: Chapter 399 Old Dog Still Has a Few Teeth
Above the grasslands, the sky gradually darkened.
The sound of thunder grew, and a light rain began to fall.
The mobilized animal legion was marching in the rain.
The white horse carried the Fox, their fur both soaked by the rain. The previous research on the magic wand had failed, and Aleister had carelessly tossed it aside.
“Do you think we have a chance of victory?”
Asked the white horse.
“What’s wrong, buddy?”
Aleister spoke frankly, “Feeling depressed from all the pressure?”
“The pressure is indeed enormous,” said the white horse in a deep voice, clear and piercing, conveying the fortitude of a hero, “but I will not give up.
“Because I carry the hope of the animal kingdom on my shoulders. I absolutely cannot fall, nor can I fail…”
“– But the very moment you say that, it shows you’re actually nervous.”
The wet Fox retorted sarcastically.
The white horse fell silent.
Aleister finally confirmed… this white horse was not Crown Lord Arthur.
Or to put it another way, it was at least “not entirely” Arthur.
Though he had only met Arthur twice, Aleister could be certain — if it were Arthur, he would never hesitate at such a time.
That man, whose will was incredibly cold and solid, possessed an iron resolve capable of enduring all pain and torment. He would never show the slightest hesitation or doubt until he was utterly worn out and broken. If the white horse was entirely based on Crown Lord, then this silent but stout sentiment should have been the focus of its portrayal.
It was because of this discord that Aleister ambiguously grasped the key to this ascension ceremony…
…Perhaps, the white horse didn’t symbolize the Crown Lord.
It might be a deeper secret…
This painting was adapted from the novel “White Horse King” written by Jacob, which conceals the story of how Arthur defeated the Supreme Heaven to become the Silver-Crowned Dragon. But there’s another possibility that “Arthur’s Story” is merely its facade, designed for those who know a little about the secrets of the Pillar God but not too much.
Which is to say, “The Story of Arthur” is just the second layer.
There lies an even deeper secret within.
The fall of the Helasal Empire is such a “trivial matter” it obviously wouldn’t warrant the history of the Pillar God’s ascent to be its veneer. And what else could there be, those that both Aiwass and Aleister still knew of…?
The Fox stood atop the horse’s back, lost in thought.
This fairy-tale-like artwork has one advantage: many details can be blurred, just like a children’s cartoon. To go to a place, you only need to make up your mind and then cut to a new shot to proceed.
Be it pre-war mobilization, marching, or war itself… if placed in a normal story, even dragging it out for over half a month would be expected. But Aleister only had two hours here.
Every time she returned through that door, time here would leap forward immensely.
The first choice Aleister faced when she saw it was to ask her, “Do you think the story of this painting really happened?” And the answers were “Yes”, “No”, and “Ambiguous”.
The question wasn’t difficult, so Aleister quickly chose “Yes”–and clearly, everyone chose the same.
When she returned, she became the white horse’s aide. And as the white horse prepared for the pre-war mobilization, that annoying baboon came uninvited–had he not, Aleister truly wouldn’t have gone out of her way to kill him.
But just after he left, Aleister pursued and decisively killed him before he could make his next choice.
While driving him away and as the white horse launched the pre-war mobilization, the second question appeared:
“Who do you think will emerge as the victor?”
Three answers were given: “Red Bear”, “White Horse”, “Golden Lion”.
Aleister chose the White Horse without hesitation, and the Mage who had already died must have been the one who opted for the Golden Lion.
As for the other person who had remained absent, he must have also quietly chosen the White Horse, continuing to stand alongside Aleister.
After making this choice, when Aleister came back… the plot had already jumped to the part where the white horse was seeking aid from the Golden Lion King.
The white horse thought the lion was arrogant, the lion considered the white horse foolish–but they both agreed that, whether arrogant or foolish, neither compared to the Red Bear. Hence, they did not need to fight each other and allow the Ursa Major to benefit from their conflict, deciding to disperse then and there.
At that moment, Aleister was parading around with the baboon’s Magic Wand in her mouth, showing off with swagger.
The Golden Lion must have seen all of this and certainly noticed that his aide was gone… but he remained completely unreactive.
–That was a king of weakness.
Aleister immediately deduced what he was made of.
That didn’t quite resemble the Helasal Empire…
The last Monarch of the Helasal Empire, no matter what, could not be deemed weak. Rather than weak, it’s better to say he was too brave…
Combining this with the white horse’s current temperament, Aleister finally began to suspect.
“Think it over yourself first, Your Highness… You said before if you must choose a carnivore to be a monarch, you would pick the Golden Lion,”
The fox drenched by the rain revealed a graceful and cunning smile: “But is there a possibility–horses too can eat meat, can’t they?”
Having said that, she leaped off the back of the white horse, leaving it to ponder on its own.
Meanwhile, she planned to look for a new source of information, to see where she could carry out a task to progress the story.
