Chapter 1288: Chapter 15 Aiwass: Mom?
After leaving the classroom where the Dream Master Mia resided, the people outside became noticeably sparse. On the vast playground, there were only four or five scattered individuals, and all of their faces were indistinct, their movements very slow–even somewhat distorted.
They were all slender little girls, but their movements when walking were obviously unnatural. Their limbs were overly flexible, and they walked in complete silence. It looked like poorly made animation, even their fingers were connected together.
“Where are we going?”
Arsene looked at them and humbly asked, “How about we find someone to ask?”
He clearly knew very little about the secrets of dreams and the Dream Realm, and now he was eagerly seeking knowledge. It was probably because of this eagerness to learn that Arsene had mastered so many skills despite only having a primary school education.
And to venture into the Dream Realm to rescue Sherlock, despite having no prior knowledge about “dreams”… this recklessness and loyalty made Ayssen have a bit more appreciation for him.
So Ayssen patiently explained his doubt: “It’s useless, we’re not in the Dream Master’s line of sight. In such a situation, these people are merely empty shells.”
“… Eh, wait. Your Holiness…”
Speaking of the Dream Master’s sight, Arsene suddenly realized, “That little girl… aren’t we taking her? Or do we need to find her first?”
“You mean Aleister?”
Aiwass replied indifferently, “She’s always with me.”
“… Is that so, sorry.” Arsene didn’t ask “what’s going on” or “how did you manage that,” he just straightforwardly admitted his mistake.
This graceful, somewhat dignified man was not very curious about others’ secrets.
This is probably why he has managed to live so safely despite being engaged in such dangerous work as a Phantom Thief in Irisland.
Aiwass simply waved his hand, not continuing to explain, he just softly said, “Also, don’t call me ‘Your Holiness.’ I know that’s my current nickname… some people use this title to pay homage to me; some want to use it to extol human achievements; and still others use it to ridicule me. But to be honest, I’ve only been an interim Pope for a month at most.
“Just call me Aiwass. Sherlock usually calls me that. You’re a friend of Sherlock, and I’m also a friend of Sherlock… so we can be friends too, right?”
“… Um.”
When it came to this, Arsene’s expression became a bit subtle: “Alright… no problem.”
“What is it?”
Aiwass keenly noticed Arsene’s expression.
“Specifically…”
Arsene cleared his throat and said seriously, “When he calls you, he usually uses a more endearing nickname. He generally doesn’t use Aiwass.”
“… Alright, I think I know what the nickname is.”
Aiwass seemed a bit resigned: “Probably something like ‘Foxy’ or ‘Sly Fox’.”
“… Eh?”
Arsene was taken aback, wondering how such names could exist, and hurriedly explained for Sherlock: “No, not at all.”
“What? Really?”
“Yes, he usually calls you ‘my dear friend.’
“What a coincidence, he calls you that in front of me too.”
Saying so, Aiwass and Arsene exchanged a knowing smile, feeling like they shared more common ground.
This is what “a friend of a friend” is like. When the person in the middle isn’t around, all you need to do is talk a little about their quirks, or share some amusing anecdotes about them, and you’ll become familiar with each other quickly.
However, Aiwass still remembered that Sherlock’s dearest friend should be Edward initially. After all, Edward was Sherlock’s first friend–especially as his friend during his introverted period, this is the most precious friend to him.
But just as the two were laughing and chatting.
Aiwass suddenly brushed past someone somewhat familiar.
He paused slightly in surprise.
At that moment, Aiwass felt his spine tense–an odd premonition overwhelmed him as if time had slowed down, almost coming to a halt.
He turned back instinctively and saw that person’s face.
Unlike the other “NPCs”, this person’s face was incredibly clear. So clear that it was obvious Mia must have seen this person in real life.
Upon seeing her face, Aiwass had a strange illusion–
“… Mother?”
He mumbled softly to himself, in a voice only he could hear.
Aiwass had good memory, especially after becoming Transcendent, it became even better.
During his first ascension ceremony, Aiwass had seen the faces of his biological parents.
In Aiwass’s view, his father was more handsome than him; and his mother had beautiful, platinum blonde hair, the same color as Aiwass’s. She carried herself with grace and elegance, had a melancholic face, fair skin, and wore a pearly silk dress.
The girl who had just passed by bore at least an eighty percent resemblance to his mother.
Whether it was appearance, eye color, hair color, or demeanor… as well as that similarly styled long dress.
But clearly, even if Aiwass’s biological mother Annie Alexander wasn’t deceased, she should now be in her forties. Yet, that girl just now seemed even younger than Aiwass, probably only about fifteen or sixteen.
For a moment, an absurd thought crossed Aiwass’s mind–could it be that his mother had been reincarnated after death?
But that was impossible.
Not to mention that mortals in this world simply don’t have the right to reincarnate, and even stepping back… even if Annie had become an Angel Envoy and successfully reincarnated, there’s no reason she wouldn’t seek out Aiwass.
So Aiwass quickly realized the truth of the matter:
Aiwass remembered that his mother Annie seemed to be a noble of Irisland. When she and Mathers’s wife came to Avalon to study, Mathers’s wife Mina fell in love with mentor Mathers, while her roommate Annie fell in love with fellow student Giulio Alexander.
The result was the two of them stayed in Avalon, even abandoning their past surnames.
In those days, Aiwass found it difficult to understand–being “nobles”, even though Irisland today no longer officially had nobility, the quality of life was still extremely luxurious, why would they give it up? It’s known that Avalon before the founding was overly conservative, closed, and backward, incomparable to the conditions of Irisland.
Now, having truly arrived in Irisland… Aiwass gradually understood.
For girls who are conservative and enjoy peace and quiet, Irisland was an environment they could hardly accept.
In other words, this girl might have a blood connection to Aiwass’s biological mother–
She was so clear, indicating Mia had a deep impression of her.
If Aiwass could find out who she is, it’d essentially mean indirectly discovering his mother’s origins!
… Even though “searching for the mother’s family” has no practical significance, for the current Aiwass, any intelligence related to his parents is worth paying attention to.
Theoretically, Aiwass still had a cousin named Lisa, who had been attacked and killed before he himself was attacked; his paternal family was thoroughly dead. Even though his grandfather Jacob, still active in the world as the Serpent Celestial Marshal’s Angel Envoy, had indeed died once.
The only possible blood-related family member might be in Irisland.
Arsene noticed Aiwass’s gaze.
“Are you very concerned about her, Aiwass?”
He was somewhat puzzled and discreetly said, “I could introduce her to you… though I remember Avalonians are quite conservative… Her Majesty the Queen wouldn’t have a problem with this?”
Clearly, Arsene thought Aiwass had fallen for her at first sight.
This wasn’t an unusual occurrence in Irisland.
“You know her?”
Aiwass also suddenly realized–since the girl was a familiar of Mia’s, wouldn’t Mia’s lover Arsene also know her!
No need to ask Mia, Arsene would already know!
“Of course I know her.”
Arsene smiled, “She is my wife’s younger sister. She also likes me and gets jealous… so naturally has contact with Mia. But I haven’t touched her, otherwise, my wife would be upset… I am somewhat dependent on others, I understand these things.
“–Her name is Abigail de Vandom.”
