Chapter 322: 321 Departure Day
In the following days, nothing particularly strange happened anymore.
Shane had also informed everyone residing at the Beizut Family’s home about his upcoming journey to Duke Sterling’s domain, so that they were all aware.
Upon learning that Shane was set to head to Duke Sterling’s domain to suppress the Old Demon Clan Faction, Vivian and her companions had offered to accompany him.
Shane did give some thought to setting out with Vivian and the others, but recalling that they had only recently survived a crisis and that Luoqi had claimed their journey would be fraught with difficulties, he decided against involving the girls, so as not to drag them into trouble. Instead, he stated he would travel with Ai Yi, reassuring everyone that they needn’t worry.
Understandably, knowing that Ai Yi would be accompanying Shane, the girls felt relieved and promptly gave up any thought of going along.
As Tielle put it…
“If even with a Dragon Demon at your side you run into trouble, then us tagging along would just slow you down.”
Therefore, Vivian and the others prepared to stay in the Royal Capital, looking after Shane’s personal affairs at home while formally registering at the headquarters of the adventurer’s guild in the Royal Capital. From then on, they would use the Royal Capital as their base of operations for adventuring, and in doing so, improve their own strength.
Ai Yi, too, had no issues with the plan.
“Actually, I’ve been waiting for quite a while.”
She seemed a bit too eager to set out.
The only one whose thoughts were uncertain was Sera.
Upon learning that Shane and Ai Yi were preparing to head to Duke Sterling’s domain together to suppress the Old Demon Clan Faction, the Demon Clan Supreme only raised an eyebrow and said nothing; she showed no reaction and quietly pondered by herself, her thoughts a mystery.
Shane had a chat with this woman.
“Isn’t it about time you returned to the Demon Realm? Do you really have that much time to loaf around here with me?”
Shane had never been polite in his manner of speaking to the Demon Supreme, consistent with his initial declaration of facing off against Sera.
“Are you really that eager to get rid of me?” Sera couldn’t help smiling wryly, “Usually, people beg me to stay longer, but you’re truly the first one who dares to rush me to leave.”
“I have no choice; you’ve seen it yourself, my personal life is quite chaotic,” Shane said with a grin, “With such a chaotic personal life, the dignified Demon Clan Supreme can’t possibly want to keep watching something so displeasing, right?”
“That won’t be the case, though?” Sera responded with a smile, not at all phased by Shane’s teasing, instead she replied with a hint of implication, “I find it quite interesting, actually. I was thinking of staying a few more days to watch.”
“Forget about it,” Shane rolled his eyes, “As you can see, Ai Yi and I will soon be leaving for Duke Sterling’s domain. You’re not seriously going to wander around with us outside, are you?”
Indeed, if Shane and Ai Yi were to leave the Royal Capital, Sera would not be able to follow them continuously.
Unlike Ai Yi, who had delegated her duties to her subordinates in the Demon Clan, Sera was genuinely busy with all manner of issues for the Demon Clan, as well as tending to the frictions among the Three clans. She had been able to loaf around these days, thanks only to her preparations beforehand; a few days without her would not cause any problems.
But this was already reaching the limit.
If Sera were to continue her leisurely time outside, chaos would likely ensue in the Demon Realm.
Shane was unaware that, during these days, Sera had already been contacted several times by her subordinates from the Demon Realm.
As a leader of the Demon Clan, the amount of time Sera could spend in the Human Realm was indeed very limited. To extend her stay would not only stir the Human Race’s nations but might also prompt an action from the Divine Race.
Therefore, in reality, Sera had already been planning to return to the Demon Realm soon.
However…
“Can’t you persuade Little Ai Yi to come back with me?”
Sera was just not quite satisfied with the outcome.
“You should persuade her yourself, I won’t do it.”
Shane couldn’t be bothered with thankless tasks.
Ai Yi’s personality was pure, and although sometimes aloof, she also had a side that was obedient to those she trusted. Shane’s requests were basically always fulfilled by this little girl, and he had no objections whatsoever to her staying.
Sera was different, as all her thoughts stemmed from considerations of race and politics. Getting her to wholeheartedly dedicate herself to someone or to lend a hand was far from easy.
Besides, Shane didn’t know Sera well at all, so he didn’t give a damn about where she went, let alone pine for her. Rather, he couldn’t wait for her to leave.
As for Ai Yi, that metaphorical “big leg” to hold on to, Shane would naturally cling tightly when given the chance, rather than pushing her away.
Sera seemed to be aware of this too, and let out a deep sigh.
“This child is really hitting her rebellious phase,” Sera lamented while speaking to Shane, “Since Little Ai Yi refuses to come back with me, you have to take good care of her. No funny business, or you know what will happen.”
Hearing this, Shane responded without a shred of politeness.
“Sorry, but I really don’t quite understand,” Shane said to Sera with a half-smile, “It’s mainly because the phrase ‘funny business’ from Lord Moon Demon here makes me not want to understand. You’ll understand why, won’t you?”
Sera was quite puzzled by Shane’s tongue-twister-like statement.
She knew what Shane was hinting at.
Because what Sera referred to as “funny business” meant telling Shane not to think about exploiting Ai Yi’s power and status for his own ends.
Sera really was worried that with Ai Yi’s straightforward nature, she could be unwittingly used by someone ambitious.
This was why she made the trip to the Human Realm.
And over the past few days, based on Sera’s observations of Shane, although she couldn’t say she completely trusted him, she could at least be fairly certain he harbored no ulterior motives.
So, Sera was somewhat relieved about the situation but couldn’t help wanting to warn Shane anyway.
But was Shane someone so easy to warn?
He was just telling Sera in his own way that such “funny business” was a boring matter that only people like them would consider. He neither wanted to understand nor would he understand.
In short, Shane was telling Sera not to worry unnecessarily.
Of course…
“If by ‘funny business’ Lord Sera means hugging and kissing and such, then I can’t promise you anything. That’s going to be the joy of my upcoming journey.”
Sera instantly bristled at Shane’s words.
“You still think about hugging and kissing that child? Don’t even think about it!”
Sera then exploded with anger.
“What’s the reason?” Shane retorted, “As long as it’s consensual, even you, her big sister, have no right to interfere, right?”
“How… How could I not?” Sera said loudly, “She’s still young!”
“Young?” Shane’s expression turned weird as he said, “The Dragon King who has lived for at least a few thousand years, maybe even over ten thousand years–you’re telling me she’s young?”
You must have some misunderstanding of the word ‘young.’
But…
“In my eyes, she is still young!”
Sera seemed to have made up her mind about that.
Shane’s expression suddenly became even more bizarre.
Now, he probably understood a bit why Ai Yi was so averse to being treated like a child by others.
So, she had always been raised as a child by these overprotective sisters?
Thinking of this, Shane’s eyes slightly turned, and he suddenly smiled.
That smile made Sera feel an instant sense of foreboding.
“What are you laughing about?” Sera, in a rare moment of nervousness, said, “I’m warning you, you better not have any crooked ideas about that kid!”
“Alright,” Shane surprisingly agreed readily and amiably said, “I won’t, rest assured.”
However, instead of feeling relieved, Sera became even more anxious when Shane was suddenly so amiable.
“No! I have to go with you!”
Sera felt she could no longer stand idly by.
But Shane did not pay any attention to the Demon and turned to leave directly for the Royal Palace to find Luoqi.
Shane spent several days with Luoqi, forcing Sera to grudgingly spend a few days at the Beizut Family’s residence as well.
After a few days, the urgency from the Demon Realm grew more pressing, and Sera’s firm stance grew increasingly fragile. Finally, she had to return to the Demon Realm full of reluctance, following a personal plea from Jiasinta.
“Remember! Little Ai Yi can only be mine!”
It seemed Sera left a letter written in red ink in Shane’s room with this bloody phrase for him to see.
To be honest, when Shane saw the bloody handwriting, he was a bit scared.
“As it turns out, you really shouldn’t provoke those with a sister complex.”
In this world, what’s truly terrifying isn’t a yandere but those with a sister complex.
At least a yandere will go down to Hell with you, but those with a sister complex only leave you with the infamy of hurting others and breaking their legs.
One involves actual death, the other social death, the terror of the latter, depending on the situation, may exceed the former by several times.
As a result, Shane handed the letter to Ai Yi.
“… wait for me another day.”
The day Ai Yi received the letter, she was silent for a long time before dropping these difficult words and, seemingly with a lot of anger, appeared to make a trip back to the Demon Realm.
What exactly happened that day, Shane still did not know.
All Shane knew was that the next day, Ai Yi came back with another letter.
“I was wrong I was wrong I was wrong I was wrong I was wrong I was wrong I was wrong I was wrong I was wrong …”
The letter was filled with words like these.
Therefore, Shane solemnly disposed of the letter.
After all, he didn’t want to have nightmares because of it.
And so, having taken care of everything that needed to be handled and with preparations already made, Shane was ready to depart.
The night before their departure, Shane spent at Luoqi’s chamber in the Royal Palace.
What exactly transpired that night, those who understood, understood.
The next day, upon Shane’s return to the Beizut home, he immediately took Ai Yi and rode upon You Lin.
It’s worth mentioning that apart from Ai Yi, Lasha had also come along.
“Since the one I serve is preparing to leave, there’s no reason for me to stay here either.”
Lasha declared as though it were natural and had somehow prepared all Shane’s luggage without him knowing.
Thanks to this, when Shane and the others were set to leave, not only were Vivian and her companions present in the courtyard, but all the maids and servants as well.
“Have a smooth journey, Big Sister!”
“Please come back soon!”
“Remember to take care of yourself!”
“Wuu… Big Sister…!”
A crowd of beautiful and pretty maids and servants gathered in the garden, shouting and crying tears as they bid farewell.
Shane didn’t even want to comment, only turning to look at Vivian and the others.
“Take care.”
Vivian nodded at Shane.
“Come back soon.”
Tielle stared intently at Shane, her eyes brimming with emotions.
“Ha… have a smooth journey?”
Lu Muya nervously offered her wishes.
“Please take care of yourself, Mr. Shane.”
Merica had a look of reluctance, almost on the verge of tears.
Shane then cracked a smile.
“Don’t worry.”
Leaving behind such a phrase, Shane lightly stepped on You Lin.
“Roar!”
With a roar, You Lin flapped her Dragon Wings, stirred up a whirlwind, and flew into the high sky.
Before long, the huge Black Dragon flew out from the Royal Capital and disappeared into the distance.
Many people witnessed this scene.
Including the Princess in the Royal Palace.
“Come back soon, okay?”
Luoqi, covered only in a blanket, stood by the window, watching the Black Dragon fly away, murmuring with longing.
That was how Shane left the Royal Capital, heading toward Duke Sterling’s Domain.
